Holy cow, this thing is heavy! There are plastic parts, but not many. The counter, the gear connected to the counter, the handle cover of the crank and the cover of the spool nut is all the plastic I see. All other gears, shafts, frame, even the crank (except the plastic handle cover) are all solid metal. Mine came with the plastic cover for the spool nut broken, but that's not a huge deal, it just looks terrible. If I have to I can break the rest of it off. It's just a standard nut under the plastic cover. Would have liked to have seen a knurled brass nut instead, but I would definitely buy again based on first impressions.

This winder appears to be well-constructed, mostly of solid metal. The counter part is plastic and seems somewhat more fragile than the rest of the machine. The rest of the winder is quite robust.

It came without instructions, so I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to use it. It's really not difficult. Remove the nut and the left-side cone, put on your form, put the cone and the nut on, and tighten.

One revolution of the crank appears to cause the spindle to rotate about 8 times. The specs say that you can change the gear ratio from 1:8 to 1:1, but it doesn't say how to do this. I think the lower gear ratio is probably intended for use when running a motor. If you're winding by hand, as I'll be doing, the 1:1 ratio isn't that important.

All in all, this is a very solid machine that seems to do exactly what it says. I am pleased with my purchase, and would recommend it to anyone doing coil winding for hobby projects. In my opinion, it is well worth the money.

Items in the future sent to anyone may need to have double boxes with packing, otherwise I am very happy with my device.

This has a lot of padding inside, yet still arrived broken. Additionally, one of the shafts is too long and flops back and forth.
