In 1998, after years of struggle, I overcame panic disorder & agoraphobia. Since 2001, I have been directing a popular website that provides resources for people recovering from these conditions. Among all the self-help books, my #1 recommendation is "Panic Attacks Workbook."
This book is based upon Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which clinical studies have shown to be one of the most effective treatments for almost all behavioral problems. Panic attacks, as the book will show you, are the result of behaviors, not chemical imbalances. You learn, whether purposely or not, see certain symptoms as dangerous, focus on them, and cause them to seem to get worse. Thats a panic cycle. Dr. Carbonell intends for you to read the book from start to finish, not skipping over any chapters. To that extent, this book is all you need to get over a panic attack or disorder, as long as you read it and follow it 100%.
Now, if you are having panic attacks constantly, you are probably skeptical, and you should be. However, I would caution against this skepticism and purchase the book. I had, and notice I say had, a severe panic disorder, with panic attacks that lasted for hours, and occurred multiple times a day. This book helped me learn what it was, what I was doing to cause it, and how I can calm down and stop judging my bodies various physical signals. Again, notice how I didn't say it help me fight back, or end panic. Anxiety is natural and necessary, and learning to embrace your emotions is going to help you.
This book requires you to work at it. For example, even after I read it, I still had attacks, but they lessened and occurred less often.Read more ›
