Two Weeks

An impressive accessory for my PS2.

I was impressed by this converter. It improves the video output compared to the stock composite cord. I posted a video comparing the two here: [...] It looks as good at the component cord to me, but there may be slight differences. I used a HDMI cable that I bought on Amazon and it works even without the USB power cord plugged in. I don't know if the cable or the TV is important, but it is getting enough power from just the HDMI cable. This probably won't work for all TVs or cords. Edit: It was good while it lasted. It has been about 9 months since I got it and I did not use it very often either. I dusted off my PS2 and played a few games. The adapter worked for a bit, then stopped working. At first I thought it was my PS2, but then I switched to the composite cable. At least that still works. Funny how my 13 year old PS2 still works but this adapter didn't even make it 1 year...

Edit 2: I bought a new one to replace the one that broke, hoping it was just a bad unit. This one displays video fine during the PS2 menu, but stops working within a minute of starting a game. I tried some of the other suggestions in the comments like using other USB cables with no luck. I tried it on multiple PS2's with the same results. With one dead after 9 months and another defective out of the box, it is obvious the poor quality of these adapters.

NOTE: This unit may work great...IF you have a newer generation SONY Playstation 2...the slim line ones I imagine. I have one of the older PS-2's and the outputs from the player did not match this device. Looks fantastic, but signal cuts in and out

I literally just got this today, I plugged it into the PlayStation and plugged in the power but the video and sound cuts in and out on 2 second intervals. It looks fantastic when it's showing a picture but it's unusable like this. I'll try returning it and getting a new one and if it's better I'll be sure to update this review.

Replacement adapter does the same thing, except this one is somehow worse. It manages to cut out the signal longer and more frequently than the original. I'm just going to return it completely and buy a component to HDMI upscaler ¯\_( ツ)_/¯

Before I begin I would like to say that I've only been using this for 2 days but I've still learned a couple of tricks to get this up and running, also I'm using a fat ps2. As some have stated in the comments make sure that your ps2 is in HD mode. To do this go into System Configuration then go to Component Video Out and switch the RGB setting to the Y Cb/Pb Cr/Cr setting. Now for the two tricks I learned, when I first plugged the ps2 to HDMI adapter in and booted up I got a blank screen and decided to try my second usb slot on my ps2... surprisingly this worked. I have also found out the hard way that the adapter is move sensitive and what I mean by that is when I moved my ps2 I got the "signal out of range" message from my monitor, to fix this simply relocate your ps2 and/or gently wiggle the adapter up down and side to side and it should work again. Remember to check that your display is capable of 480 resolution(s) and that you shouldn't stand the ps2 upright when using this adapter as the usb cable hangs off the side and will get pinched if you do. One thing to note about the audio jack is that sound will travel to both your display and headphones/speakers so make sure to mute your display if your goal is silence. Lastly, is the picture quality better and is this item worth it? The picture quality is only slightly better than normal composite cables, at least in my opinion anyways, but in the end I'm very happy with this purchase as it's allowed me to dust off my ps2 and enjoy it once again alongside my computer. Well that's all, hope this helps some of you.

It works! Something to note is that the usb power chord that comes with it is not sufficient to actually power the thing. The second thing to note is that after you find a usb chord that WILL power it (and to this day I'm not sure exactly what it is that determines that), it has to be plugged in before you turn anything on or else it won't work. That doesn't sound like a big deal, but the first time you use it, chances are it won't work at all because you have to set the PS2 to use the "Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr" video setting, which I had to do blind because my modern tv did'nt even have component inputs.

What I'm saying is, it works great, but do a google search if you have a rocky start.

I'm sure this is a great device, but I tried every trick listed by other commenters to get it to work. What ended up happening was that my monitor tha I wanted to connect it to was too powerful for the device and essentially I needed another component between this device and my monitor to get it to work. The cost wasn't worth it at that point because there are other options out there to essentially translate and upscale from the PS2 to HDMI at the resolution my monitor handles. Btw, I have a Samsung Syncmaster P2770. This device does not upscale to what it needs to display. The monitor receives the input but can not display.

Used this item for my PlayStation 2 since I was having some issues with its AV cables. Works great. Hooked connector to ps2, usb to the ps2 (power source), hdmi to converter and tv. Very easy to install. I didn't have to, but went through different display options. I noticed a huge improvement with the display/picture. My A/V connection could have been just awful though, so I'm not sure how much this product improved picture quality.
