I did web search, found Panosaurus 2 on the gregwired.com web site and for the price, was a no-brainer.
The unit is very well made of machined aluminum with calibration marks for all kinds of cameras.
The parts went together with little effort, my only minor nit-pick would be that the camera shoe mount should have thumb knobs on screws to make it easier to re-adjust, however, if only using one camera, the philips screws worked just fine.
It comes with a built in bubble level, and level is KEY in doing the pano shoots. I'd suggest getting a Giottos Ball head that would attach under the Panosaurus and allow you to quickly set level in all directions.
Once I did my first shoot with the unit (only about 6 takes with a very wide angle lens) and plugged it into the pano stitching software it all came together in one shot without any tweaking!
I am very happy with this product and actually look forward to my next pano shoot.
I am deducting a star for a couple of reasons
1) I would like to have some sort of detents for the horizontal and vertical rotations.
2) It would be nice if it used a worm gear to make small adjustments. It took about 10 minutes to adjust and I think I could have probably done it in two with the ability to make small changes accurately
Neither of those make this an unusable product and at this price point there's really no competition.
I am using this with a Sony A77 with the 16-50 f2.8 lens. It is a bit heavy but the Panosaurus has no really problems.
I do need to get a different tripod head. My three way monofrotto is a pain to level.
handles my Canon 60d with out a problem. Setup was easy and instructions to calibrate were very easy to follow and accurate.
I emailed the company about getting an additional base and had a response within 24 hours.
After owning this this pano head for several months now, I can still say that I am very happy with this purchase. The pano head is very well made. I have used it with my Canon 60D, EF-S 15-85 lens (which is a heavy lens), and 60ex flash without it sagging or slipping.
The head is very heavy duty.
The instructions I received, as well as the ones online, were very easy to follow to calibrate it and it has not lost it's calibration at all. Helps to create perfect pano shots.
I have also contacted the owner again, because I lost a bolt for the unit, and he was just as fast as previous to contact me.
You really can't go wrong with this unit.
I ordered it on a Friday and it was delivered on Monday afternoon without special shipping costs!
If you want to do real panos, I would recommend this highly.
