magically appeared. This stuff is great, authentic, and no different
from what you'll find in a Greek imports store. Even the price is
comparable. Great stuff!
I know they're not equivalent, but I've been hunting for an
easy to use espresso machine to get my caffeine fix. Greek
coffee has at least the same kick, if not more, for a much
lower price point and maintenance. Have Briki, will travel :-).
Though delicious - my problem is who makes the coffee. It is made by Nestle, not a Greek company. I believe Bravo is made in Greece?
Traditionally the ratio used is one teaspoon of coffee and one teaspoon of sugar for every demitasse cup of water put in the briki heated on the stovetop but as someone who knows how to make greek coffee this didn't work for me and I had to experiment a bit to get the right consistency and flavor with this particular purchase. I'm not sure whether it was a characteristic of the coffee I received or our tap water but I found that I had to use a heavy heaped teaspoon of coffee (almost 2 tsp) in order to get the correct frothy top (kaimaki). This gave the robust flavor and appearance I'm used to but resulted in a rather grainy brew with quite a bit of leftover coffee in the bottom of the cup which wasn't all that pleasant. I've used this brand before while overseas so have no idea why this should be the case...perhaps I got a bad batch or it may be the case as others have implied, that the quality of the product being produced has deteriorated somewhat. I will need to keep fiddling to see if I can get it just right otherwise I'll be trying another brand.
