I have found that since Nestle bought Loumidis the quality of the coffee is not consistent and it is not as flavorful as it used to be! Shame... this used to be the standard in Greek coffee. Now I think it's Bravo instead.

Like I ever knew the brand, I just asked for Greek coffee and it
magically appeared. This stuff is great, authentic, and no different
from what you'll find in a Greek imports store. Even the price is
comparable. Great stuff!

I know they're not equivalent, but I've been hunting for an
easy to use espresso machine to get my caffeine fix. Greek
coffee has at least the same kick, if not more, for a much
lower price point and maintenance. Have Briki, will travel :-).

Scientists believe that Greek coffee may be the key to greater longevity and heart health - a study found that many of the oldest people in the world drink a cup of the caffeinated beverage every morning. However, you have to boil it on the stove in a Turkish or Greek coffee pot to get the full benefits. It is easy, but I would suggest going on line to learn how to boil Greek coffee.

Though delicious - my problem is who makes the coffee. It is made by Nestle, not a Greek company. I believe Bravo is made in Greece?

I'm amazed by reviewers who make this type of coffee incorrectly then post negative reviews, because it then "tastes bad". For the uninitiated...Greek coffee is strong, it's usually sweet and is not drunk with milk or any other additives. It is usually served in a small demitasse cup and you can expect a small layer of coffee grounds settling at the bottom, which are not designed to be drunk (though if you have an elderly Greek grandma you might get your fortune told using them!)

Traditionally the ratio used is one teaspoon of coffee and one teaspoon of sugar for every demitasse cup of water put in the briki heated on the stovetop but as someone who knows how to make greek coffee this didn't work for me and I had to experiment a bit to get the right consistency and flavor with this particular purchase. I'm not sure whether it was a characteristic of the coffee I received or our tap water but I found that I had to use a heavy heaped teaspoon of coffee (almost 2 tsp) in order to get the correct frothy top (kaimaki). This gave the robust flavor and appearance I'm used to but resulted in a rather grainy brew with quite a bit of leftover coffee in the bottom of the cup which wasn't all that pleasant. I've used this brand before while overseas so have no idea why this should be the case...perhaps I got a bad batch or it may be the case as others have implied, that the quality of the product being produced has deteriorated somewhat. I will need to keep fiddling to see if I can get it just right otherwise I'll be trying another brand.

I mix this healthy Greek coffee with my regular coffee and place it in my coffee maker. Half Greek coffee, half regular ground coffee. The coffee is soooooo smooth and delicious that my adult children and family members line up for a large mug each morning. It is so smooth tasting it goes down like silk. I add real cream and sugar to my coffee, my husband is cream only. My neighbors love it too. It's the absolute best coffee in the world. Please add it to your regular coffee and place in your coffee maker. You will never be sorry. Remember, Greek coffee is also very healthy to drink everyday. Just ask Doctor Oz.
