The letter from Ben (a cliffhanger from book 5) was a temporary hammer, but prep for the wedding was the real show, including a really good/offbeat bachelorette night... especially when you consider that Natalie and Skylar had to be enthusiastic for a moment in which they ultimately would be losing an opportunity to be with their idealized romantic partner. They were the highlights.
I liked the letter from Ben. There was an immediate effect, and subtle effects later. I want more from this part of the story, and we don't get it from this book.
I do wish there were more lengthy uneven points in their relationship. I know the story is supposed to be Olivia and Avery together, but the narrative is very determined at maintaining that. It is too consistent in that part of the story. Ultimately, that's what I want as well, but more questions and bumps in the road would be welcome.
As insightful as the bachelorette night was, it was also really chaste. It was odd. It was an opportunity to throw wrenches into the works, but that only really happened for the side characters, who stole the show.
Natalie and Skylar were the highlights because we needed a different tone and voice.
I want to say I loved this, but mainly because I have faith in a stronger story tomorrow. I liked what problems Olivia and Avery ran into... I just wish there were more of them beyond the problems inside their heads.
