"LeBlanc's Paper Heart dives deep into darkness, while still clutching the light. This autobiographic work deals with love and heartbreak, as well as abuse, sexual assault, and the complicated emotions that accompany the loss of an abusive parent. Throughout the text LeBlanc remains highly experimental in structure, spanning from regular rhyme schemes to free verse to acrostics to prose poems and beyond, while still maintaining accessible language that appeals to a broad audience."-Matt Miller (Author of Brave and Stupid)
From the Author
I have always loved hard and passionately and felt things on a "too-deep" level compared to most people. This collection is my way of coping with the world and my experiences.A lot of my writing stems from dark places and things that people only think about but rarely speak of out loud. Through all these trying times, I have also experienced so much love, generosity, and kindness...it's unbelievable.
This collection of poetry is pure emotion and is my interpretation of things I know, learned, or experienced. This collection took me years to complete. It pulls from the darkest and brightest parts of me. Some of these poems are fifteen years old and were previously incomplete fragments, some of them were just written weeks ago. I have poured my heart into these poems, many of them have been written and rewritten ten and twenty times. I have dreamed of publishing poetry since I first started reading it and am in awe that this is finally out in the world. Thank you for taking the time to read it. You all make this journey worth it.

Thanks to the author Jennifer LeBlanc for the ebook ARC of Paper Heart by Jennifer LeBlanc in exchange for an honest review.
It is crinkled, torn and frayed
but it’s still a heart all the same….
Paper Heart is a collection of poetry stemming from the places where light and darkness have shaped who Jennifer LeBlanc as a writer. Written over years of love, pain, and hope, each poem is a placeholder for something that held her mind for either a bright moment or a dark hour.
I give this book a rating of 5 stars. This is the first poetry book that I have read. I really like the cover of this book and I also like Jennifer’s style of writing. I have read other books by her as well. I really enjoyed the variety of poems and each poem made you feel something.
Trigger Warning: This very personal, very intimate, collection of modern poetry contains interpreted lyrical poetry about self-harm, depression, addiction, death of a parent, rape, abuse, just to point out some of the more major content. Please practice health-care before, during, and after, reading this poetry collection.
My heart hurt reading through this collection. Many of the poems resonated within me, as I've experienced same and similar situations before myself. Reading the poems Jennifer wrote about her mom's alcoholism, and how the addiction claimed her life, when Jennifer was a young kid, broke my heart.
I love the simplistic format, and the look of crumpled paper as you were reading it (at least, with the ebook format).
If you are not into modern poetry, this isn't for you. If you afe, or would like to read poetry that makes you feel, read Paper Heart.
Thank you to Jennifer LeBlanc for sharing glimpses of your heart and soul.
I received a complentary copy of this work through Voracious Readers Only in exchange for my honest opinion.
In “Mom”, the reader is shown the deep pain one can know when having a family member with addiction. In “She Didn’t Know Better,” she transports the reader into their own memories of personal pain, and growth. “Roar” is a bold declaration of our self worth and positivity, and my personal favorite “Perfections Prisoner,” explains the struggles faced when one battles conditions like OCD. Lines like, “(I) can’t seem to unclench myself so I can breathe” struck a chord with me. I could feel that pain while reading the poem.
I recommend this book to anyone, whether you like poetry or not. It at times hits home to the feelings I feel, and others transported me into the feelings of others, who have dealt with things I’ve never imagined having to deal with in this life. A little empathy can go a long way, and this collection of poems can put you in another’s shoes, to develop a little more compassion for all, which is so desperately needed in this world.

I also loved the word phantasmagoria in one of the poems.
phantasmagoria-A sequence of real or imaginary images like those seen in a dream.
Thank you so much for sharing these pieces of you.
