It has appealing protagonsts, an interesting setting (who knew pens could be so sexy), hot sex (if you're into that kind of thing), fun side characters, and lots of love. My only suggestion is that there could be a little more tension. This is my first book by Jae. I'm not sure what took me so long read her, but I will probably read another.

Paper Love is a sweet romance set in the small town of Freiburg. Susanne is “volun-told” by her mother to go help out her uncle’s stationery store that is in a bit of financial trouble. There she meets Anja who is blissfully unaware of any financial issues and has to deal with a super frosty Susanne.

So many things appealed to me about this book. There is a word that keeps recurring throughout -“Bächle”, I googled it along with Freiburg and sweet heavens, the pictures of Freiburg were as if it’s straight from a fairy tale. With those lovely images and descriptions floating in my head, I totally geeked out with Anja and her love of paper journals and fountain pens 🥰.

This was an ice queen / opposites attract romance and Susanne’s character as the ice queen is not very likable in the beginning but there are some very sweet moments towards the middle and later half of the book that had me rooting for her.

Apart from the temperaments of both MCs being diametrically opposite, there is also a nice juxtaposition of digital vs paper thread and how both can and do exist together.

This book is set in Germany, and even though everything is in english, a few sprinklings of german words and maybe some phrasing had me imagining everyone speaking english with a german accent 😂. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I also loved the slow burn of this story and the payoff was 🔥 and totally worth the wait.

This is a low angst - low drama tale and really is about the journey the two MCs go through in getting to know each other and falling in love.

Aside from giving me some major travel yearnings and making me want to purchase “yet another” journal that I will never write in, this book ended up being a very enjoyable afternoon read.

It's a beautiful slow burn romance where you experience some of the sites, folk lore and history of Frieburg while Susanne and Anja, brainstorm ways to not only help Paper Love survive but thrive. The characters, both main and supportive, as well as the storyline are captivating and well crafted. It's truly an enjoyable read.

First of all, I don't really think this was an enemies to lovers story. The initial relationship between Susanne, the niece of Uncle Norbert who is the owner of Paper Love, and his long term employee Anna wasn't icy enough, yet they were indeed rivals. Yes, she was snobby, a little arrogant and believed in all things digital while Anna wanted to save Nobby's deluxe paper and pen stationery shop. However, a one day trip to the Stationery Fair had each woman looking at the other very differently.

Jae certainly knows how to write a slow burn romance. The characters are each so likeable, yet vulnerable. The dialogue is perfect, the plot engaging and descriptions of the settings around them makes this reader want to visit the lovely town of Freiburg. And I learned a lot about fountain pens as well!!! I highly recommend this sweet romance!

I loved the setting, it was nice to have something based in what felt like a gorgeous picturesque German City that Jae had described that well it felt like I was actually in it. The story flowed well and I liked all the characters equally. Typical Enemies to Lovers approach but there was a thawing very early on which led to a nice build up to the actual relationship between Frau Wolff and Frau Lamm. Certainly worth a read.
