Susanne Wolff isn’t thrilled when her mother sends her all the way across the country to Freiburg to save her uncle’s stationery store from bankruptcy. Freiburg is too provincial for her taste, and besides, pen and paper are outdated anyway.
Anja Lamm, Paper Love’s only full-time employee, takes an instant dislike to the arrogant, digital-loving snob who’s supposed to be her temporary boss. But thanks to a meddling cat, a business trip to a stationery fair, and an armada of origami boats, Anja soon starts to see beneath Susanne’s aloof exterior, and Susanne discovers how sexy pens and notebooks can be—at least when Anja handles them.
As the end of Susanne’s three-month stay approaches, will she stick to her plan to leave, or will she open her heart to more than just paper love?

About the author

Jae is the author of twenty-three award-winning lesbian romances. She lives in the sunniest city of Germany, near the French and Swiss borders. The writing bug bit her at the age of eleven.
She used to work as a psychologist but gave up her day job in 2013 to become a full-time writer and a part-time editor. As far as she’s concerned, it’s the best job in the world.
When she’s not writing, she is an avid reader of lesbian books, indulges her ice cream and stationery addictions, and watches way too many crime shows.

So many things appealed to me about this book. There is a word that keeps recurring throughout -“Bächle”, I googled it along with Freiburg and sweet heavens, the pictures of Freiburg were as if it’s straight from a fairy tale. With those lovely images and descriptions floating in my head, I totally geeked out with Anja and her love of paper journals and fountain pens 🥰.
This was an ice queen / opposites attract romance and Susanne’s character as the ice queen is not very likable in the beginning but there are some very sweet moments towards the middle and later half of the book that had me rooting for her.
Apart from the temperaments of both MCs being diametrically opposite, there is also a nice juxtaposition of digital vs paper thread and how both can and do exist together.
This book is set in Germany, and even though everything is in english, a few sprinklings of german words and maybe some phrasing had me imagining everyone speaking english with a german accent 😂. 🤷🏻♀️
I also loved the slow burn of this story and the payoff was 🔥 and totally worth the wait.
This is a low angst - low drama tale and really is about the journey the two MCs go through in getting to know each other and falling in love.
Aside from giving me some major travel yearnings and making me want to purchase “yet another” journal that I will never write in, this book ended up being a very enjoyable afternoon read.
It's a beautiful slow burn romance where you experience some of the sites, folk lore and history of Frieburg while Susanne and Anja, brainstorm ways to not only help Paper Love survive but thrive. The characters, both main and supportive, as well as the storyline are captivating and well crafted. It's truly an enjoyable read.
Jae certainly knows how to write a slow burn romance. The characters are each so likeable, yet vulnerable. The dialogue is perfect, the plot engaging and descriptions of the settings around them makes this reader want to visit the lovely town of Freiburg. And I learned a lot about fountain pens as well!!! I highly recommend this sweet romance!

Susanne has been asked to visit her uncle in the hope that she can find a way to save his beloved stationery store which is struggling to stay afloat amidst the electronic era where phones and tablets are threatening to eradicate the need for pen and paper. Enter Anja, her uncle’s fiercely loyal and stationery addicted assistant, who instantly sees Susanne as the enemy. Can Susanne and Anja work together to save Paper Love or will Susanne decide it is beyond saving and thus close the doors on both the store and her heart when she starts to grow close to Anja?
A beautiful travelogue through Freiburg, an abundance of stationery, twins, a cat called Muesli and a wonderfully refreshing story set in Europe – Jae is at the heart of Paper Love and has given her readers a real treat with this delightful book.

I love this cute and beautiful story with characters you can really can relate to. I can really recommend this book if you like a slow-burner. I've read it many timer and i love it every single time a little more!
