With a map from Princess Peach, and the help of a few locals, Mario journeys through a colorful world made of paper to find them first. Leaf through a storybook world with charming characters in every fold Surprises abound in this deep and engaging tale, where everyone’s got something to say and it’s often not what you’d expect. Mario will meet all kinds of interesting folks on his journey, like the upbeat and studious Goombella and the shy but determined Koops. This is a fantastic game from 2004 that has been skillfully and faithfully recreated for modern fans. Without going into any spoilers, this game has several additions that in my opinion make it the definitive edition by far. I would recommend it to any RPG or Mario fan wanting to give the best Paper Mario game a try.Controversies:Vivian - Let's get the big one out of the way. One of the partners in the game is named Vivian, and she is a transgender woman. This is referenced a single time by one piece of dialog from Vivian herself, 10+ hours into the game. She has always been this way, even in the original Japanese version, so this was not "added," or" propaganda," just an official translation. Here is her singular sentence referring to it:"Truth is, it took me a while to realize I was their sister... Not their brother. Now their usual bullying feels heavier."This is never mentioned or brought up again at any point. You could completely ignore it or even miss it if you weren't looking for it or paying attention. A kid would probably just press A right passed it. I'll also mention that the statement itself is ambiguous at worst, and considering Vivian herself is some kind of purple shadow creature who's clearly not human, it could mean anything. It is a bit sad that she's clearly a bullied individual, and is now suffering the same fate in real life from people reviewing this game who have no clue about the full context. In my personal opinion, it would be a far worse lesson for kids to learn to hate other groups of people. The last controversy is that the game runs at 30fps instead of 60fps on the original. Those who care about this at all often fail to mention that the original version could not always handle moments where a lot of stuff was happening on screen, causing the game to stutter heavily drop in frames. Conversely, the new switch version here on Amazon runs perfectly at 30fps at all times despite its fantastic graphical upgrade. This change is to the game's benefit, and the fact that it is 30fps isn't noticeable at all. It is very good, and isn't a con by any stretch. Thanks for reading! I would highly recommend giving the game a try. It is truly a gem.Below is a picture to show I own and have played both copies.

For a game that got made 20 years ago this remake proves that the first two Paper Mario games are definitely the best ones in the series. It has aged incredibly well. Game has very good and humorous writing, combat is simple and fun with each playable character having unique executions for their attacks and support abilities. Besides this, the new features are basically a graphic and aesthetic overhaul. They definitely made the game feel and look like a pop-up story book. Each area, building, props and characters has a very definite paper feel and look to them. Game runs at 30 fps but you don’t really notice it much and it rarely dips in frames unless it gets a little crowded with characters.
Overall, this is an incredible game both kids and adults alike would greatly enjoy.

I never had a Gamecube as a kid or as an adult so I had no experience with the original game at all. As with most people I heard this is the most beloved game in the Paper Mario series so I decided to check it out. I can say the hype was real with this game. Excellent improved graphics over the original (I saw how the original looks on YouTube videos), great story and characters, and fairly simple easy to pick and play RPG gameplay (I would recommend this to new RPG players). Overall very good game and I highly recommend for both RPG and Mario fans alike

I never had a GameCube growing up, so never got to play the original game. I was so excited when I found out they'd remade it for the Switch. This game is adorable. The art style is fantastic, the characters are so personable, and the dialogue is hilarious. The gameplay can get a little tiresome at times, especially during battles with tedious enemies, but the inclusion of the warp room makes the necessary backtracking much easier to deal with. I haven't beaten it yet - the final boss is a force to be reckoned with - but I can't wait to keep exploring this universe!

Let me preface this by saying that the original version of this game was very influential to me as a kid, and was inspirational to me as a writer. So this game has a LOT of sentimental value to me.

That being said, this remake is absolutely incredible. It has managed to stay mostly faithful to the original, while adjusting for the change in our society and shoring up some of the original's flaws (for anyone who had to do what I did and throw matches in the Glitz Pit in the original to get the Tattle Log done...not anymore, they added Exhibition Matches). It's been amazing to play through the story and see its influence in my current work, because even after all these years, it's always been in the back of my mind, influencing me.

I do want to say, I'm incredibly disappointed in the closed-minded bigots complaining about Vivian being established as trans (which she was in the Japanese Version of the original). Letting your hatred for people who are merely trying to live their lives in peace, because they now have a character in a "family friendly" game to relate to, take over to the point where you'll review-bomb it is frankly pathetic. They handled Vivian in a way that is perfectly valid and easy to explain to a child, and she's a wonderful character. I hope one day the hate in some of y'all's hearts is cleansed.

But I digress! The point is, as someone who was massively influenced by the original, I fully and wholeheartedly believe that this remake is a wonderful and faithful tale on an incredible classic. Whether you played the original or not, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Extremely fun and faithful to the original game. It even improves upon the original localization by making many things more accurate to the original Japanese version from 2004 by removing censorship involving the character Vivian. It is dealt with in a healthy and respectful way which is much appreciated! I don't get where the low-ish reviews are coming from, since it's just being accurate to the original version but besides that, the graphics are wonderful looking and the art style is charming and cute! Of course, the game-play and story are still as excellent and are things I would consider to be the top of the industry. Definitely check this game out!

Why did I wait so long to play this game. I never played the original but I see why this is considered the best paper Mario game. Fun characters and storyline keeps things fresh and the colorful graphics look like a high quality story book. I’m about halfway through and can’t put it down.

So slow. A lot of reading and npc interactions. Cannot skip any parts of the long intro or interactions. It looks good on the switch and that's about it. Literally just got this delivered 20 mins ago. Will probably never play again. Disappointed.
