You get what you pay for with most things most of the time, and this four-pack of black "clickable" pens (PaperMate no. 89471) is no exception; just remember to pull off the little plastic bead at the tip of each of these pens before you start writing. This model Profile is a ballpoint pen, but the thick black line (1.44mm) and easy laydown are more reminiscent of gel pens. The sleek gray barrel, comfort grip and retractability argue gel, as well. I have to wonder if the little plastic bead that has to be removed is really integral to the functioning of this pen, or just an affectation carried over from the gel family? Your first downstroke after the pen has been resting for a while may not be perfect -- a common trait of ballpoints but not gel pens. I can say that this pen does particularly well at making copysets (duplicate-form personal checks, for example) because you can bear down hard if necessary, and the line is thick and bold enough that I can address small- and medium-sized kraft envelopes with impunity. At about a ten percent discount from retail, Amazon's current price is respectable but dyed-in-the-wool bargain-hunters may want to shop around more. Zebra, Bic, Pentel, Foray and even Uni-Ball, among others, all market pens in this general price range.
These PaperMate Profile pens were manufactured in Korea and marketed by PaperMate, a part of the Sanford Brands office-products company, which itself is part of Newell Rubbermaid, a home-products conglomerate headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The maker does not claim that this pen produces check-writing that can't be "washed" off by forgers and identity thieves.
They are in inch shorter, so about 4 1/2" long.
I have been very happy with the performance of this pen. It has lived up to its promises, writing smoothly and evenly every time. Also, although I like a thicker ink line, I don't like when the pen itself is too bulky. That is definitely not the case with the Profile; instead, it has a nice cushioned grip for your fingers while retaining a slimmer design. If your tastes are similar to mine, you will love this pen--highly recommended!

My wifes favorite pen. They never get gunked up or dried up. Great pen.Published 2 days ago by Amazon Customer
I have used these pens for many years. They write very smoothly and have never skipped or blobbed, like Bic does, and the ink lasts for a very long time.Published 7 days ago by Mad Jack
Did not know that these pens were miniature sized and not regular, full sized pens. I'm a senior in college not a cute lil fourth grader AND I NEED REGULAR SIZED PENSPublished 17 days ago by Amazon Customer
I can just grab one of these pens and slip it in my pocket as I go from one classroom to another. I love the size. They write really well, and I like the color assortment. Read morePublished 23 days ago by Paaior Niss
These pens are great. They write very smoothly. My other pens feels very rough compared to these. Of course, I usually get cheapy pens. Read morePublished 29 days ago by Aasell Purff
