I haveto say Faith Mortimer handles contentious issues withaplomb. She givesjust enough detail to ensure the reader has a full understandingofevents and situations without adding gratuitous detail merely to shock. This is very skilled writing...the plot is incrediblyfast with anexplosive start and a rapid series of events throughout. Theshortchapters add to this pace. I found them ensnaring, before I knew it, I'd read thewhole book. I found the endingvery satisfying. Linda's Book Bag Top1000 reviewer
...book held my interest throughout...the most striking thing was how originalit was...down to great timing plus excellent writing skills and memorable and readable characters.
There is a VERY dark edge to this book. As thebook progressed I wasgripped...even though you have thatsinking feeling you HAVE to carryon...This book took me by surprise and I would definitely recommend itfor people wanting somethingdifferent... a cracking read! BCB& More Top 500 reviewer
This is one book you wantto read through your fingers because you'reterrified to find out what mighthappen next, I enjoyed every singlemoment. This was one of those books where everything came together tomake it afantastic read - strong characters (even Gillian retainingsecrets thatkeep you on edge... clever stuff!), a vividlydrawn setting,an erotic edge, tension and anticipation winding up until it becomesreally uncomfortable, a story that you want to find out what happens but agonising about what horror theending will bring. There's violence andanger and real nastiness that couldhave made it a difficult book toread, but I never looked away once - the day-to-day and domestic detailmade Gillian's situation and unfolding story completely engrossing andtotally believable. I really enjoyed thisbook. I loved the setting - Faith'scolourful, vivid descriptions took me to a place I've never been to...golden sandybeaches, palm fronds swaying and the clear blue, menacing seas.
The book is well written and its plot exactlyas I like them - intriguingand suspenseful, not too complex. The endingleft me both happy and sad. I did not expect it to endthe way it did. I was impressed by the author's ability to create thosefinal dramatic scenes...suspenseful, nail-biting, gut-wrenchingmoments, I think this book isjust brilliant and I highly recommend it. I won'tbe surprised to see itmade into a movie one day. Read & Relax Review Top 1000 reviewer
I absolutely loved the tagline onthe front cover of Paradise Prison "Theperfect hiding place...haven orhell?" It sums up perfectly this addition to the Dark Minds series whichis a chilling standalone psychologicalthriller ... every plot twist was a big surprise to me I even I gaspedout loud towards the end- definitely didn't have apredictable storyline! The atmosphere is dark and chilling and even though it'sset in the heat and humidity of the Caribbean, I actually shivered...thetension built slowly with amenacing air of foreboding as Gill graduallycame to realise what was happening... the ending quite literally took my breath away! Faith Mortimer has afabulous writing style that quicklyfeels familiar and thereforeintegrates you into the storyline with ease. I read this book in onesitting and I wasn't disappointed. This book is a roller-coaster, taking both Gill's hopes and fears, and those ofthe readers, on a breath-taking adventure. There are someheart-in-mouthsituations and you'll find yourself wanting to shout atsome of the charactersfor their actions or attitudes. I didn't guess the stunning outcome but thestory whipped me along in its wake. A greatread. Ignite Top 1000 reviewer
