The Paradox 2.5-layer system is created by adding a waterproof and breathable coating to a high-performance protective fabric. The raised pattern makes the 2.5-layer fabric light and compressible, while still protecting the waterproof barrier. Treated with a water repellent finish, it is rainwear's first line of defense against precipitation. This fabric construction blocks wind and water on the outside, protecting you from the elements and keeping you dry and comfortable. I live in a wet climate so I wanted a jacket that would cover my rear end when I am doing an outdoor workout in running tights. I am 5'9" and have a very long torso for my size, so I knew it would be hard to find a jacket that would do this. This jacket nearly covers all of it so I'm pretty happy with that.
I also wanted it to taper in and have a feminine shape. It would be great if the jacket was attractive so that I could use it for more than just workouts. It does taper a little, I wish it was just a tad bit more feminine.
It is lightweight and great for travel, it rolls up small and could fit in a quart Ziploc bag.
The reason I took one star away, is that it is not as breathable as I had hoped. Recently I wore it over a T-shirt when the temperatures were in the 60's and felt rather warm, I can see that this will not be a year-round jacket in a warmer climate.
Hope this was helpful
The first time I wore it on the trip was during a hike through the "Cloud Forest". When we first showed up for the tour, the guide asked me if my jacket was waterproof and it sounded like he was doubting how waterproof it actually was since the jacket looked so lightweight. I said, "I hope so!", because the jacket was pretty cheap compared to others, and I had never owned a rain jacket to compare it to so I wasn't sure how well it would hold up. It poured the whole time we were on the hike (2-3 hours). I was stunned at how truly waterproof the jacket was! I had my iPhone in my pocket and it did not get wet at all. The hood was big enough to fully cover my head so my hair didn't get wet at all, either. I was not uncomfortable once during and after the hike, it was great! The jacket kept me extremely dry and was very comfortable to wear - I was not hot at all. When I finally took the jacket off, I did not have that "damp" feeling that you get from wearing non-waterproof jackets in the rain. I have attached a picture from the trip where you can see just how wet the jacket was on the outside!
One other thing I was really happy with was the amount of pockets and "secret compartments" that the jacket seemed to have. I had enough spots to keep all of my valuables during my trip.
I LOVE this rain jacket! I've been bringing it anytime I plan on going outside in the off chance that it may rain. I'd say that since it held up very well for hours in the Costa Rican rainforest, it should do well pretty much anywhere else I could ever go. It rolls up very small to fit in a backpack, so it's super easy to bring it everywhere!
I have not had an opportunity to wear while raining yet but believe this will work as expected.
