This was a great way to get a taste of these authors and their series of books. Warning; most of these are just the first in a series and have cliff hanger endings or semi-cliff hanger endings. Still, very enjoyable read for most of the stories and you won't die if you don't continue reading the next in the series. I recommend trying it.

I am still reading these and will continue to update my review as I finish each story. However, as it stands now... You'll understand my one-star in a second.

The first book does not belong with this collection. The first book, "Darkangel" by Christine Pope, is amazing. Pope did an excellent job crafting characters, a concept, an intriguing plot, a detailed setting, everything. Everything about "Darkangel" is excellent. The details, the pacing, the plot twists, the mystery, were all done right. Every twist and turn is so sudden and unexpected but not outrageously misplaced, and it all flows smoothly with all the pieces coming together. Additionally, the final plot twist that becomes a cliffhanger ending was expertly done and makes the reader want more. I cried out in frustration when I turned the last page and was greeted by the title page of the next story.

Angela, a witch prima-in-waiting, who has never left her hometown of Jerome, Arizona, except to go to Phoenix once a year, has to find her soulmate/consort before she turns twenty-two, and with only months left until the deadline, she's becoming desperate. Dozens of suitors have come to her door and failed her kiss-test. If she doesn't find her consort before she turns twenty-two, she'll never be able to unlock the full extent of her powers and lead her witch clan as their prima, and she's going to need all the power she can get if she's to protect her vulnerable clan from the powerful, vicious Wilcox clan a couple counties over. While she's stressing over potentially failing as prima before she even becomes prima, a new threat arrives. Is this the work of the Wilcox clan? Will she ever find her consort? Does she actually need a consort?

This collection should be listed as young or new adult. I didn't read all of the stories because frankly, I got bored and started skimming and then just quit. If you enjoy that genre, be warned, all of the stories that I finished were series lead ins with no resolution unless you buy additional books.

I'm tempted to give this set of 13 books 5 stars, but I've only read 1 book so far. The reason I would love to give the set the whole 5 is for the price- right now at nothing! And I've read the reviews of the other book (I take some of those negative ones with a grain of salt). I'll just stick to reviewing only the one book I read but I'm excited to read the rest of them. Even if you only like a couple in this set, why wouldn't you get it at the price it is, nothing or else the reduced combined price? If this is your genre, get on board and pick them up while they are all free and get to reading.

Dream Student: This book is one of the best plotted books I have ever read. The characters come to life as the author takes us through Sara's story, page by page. The main character discovers she can see into people's dreams, and she soon finds herself in a nightmare when she sees murders taking place. This, however, is just part of the story. The author does a wonderful job with character development, adding each new friend and acquaintance one by one to build up a huge cast of characters and small storylines to go along with the larger mystery. The heroine is easy to connect with, a very likable pre-med college student. This is the first of the series and even though each book can stand alone, I would suggest starting with this one and working your way through the others. There is so much to learn about each person and their life and the author does a fantastic job of incorporating everything into the storyline and making it all come together smoothly in the end. This first book builds up to a thrilling ending, and I am sure you will want to go right to the next book as soon as you finish this one.

I got this set because I was especially interested after a friend referred me to Christine Pope's Darkangel. It was a good read and gave me a lot of insight into a witchy clan's new young Prima (AHS fans might think "Supreme"), Angela McAllister, and the magical set-up of this haunted southwest town: Jerome, Arizona. I like that Angela consistently cares about her duties and obligations without throwing tantrums, and her back-and-forth trying to find her consort can be alternately funny and awkward. I enjoyed getting to know the family and friends. However, I can't think that Book 2--which will include her collision with her consort under dangerously charged circumstances-- will have the same leisurely tone. Seems destined to get hot and perilous, which should also be fun, but I think this story will take a big jump of evolution forward, so readers beware and be expectant.

I'm sure to dip into other stories in this collection, too, and look forward to discovering more authors and series!
