If ANYONE ever felt the need for a parenting "How-To", this is it!! Not for the faint of heart though - as it pulls no punches and advocates a tell-all approach to upcoming obstacles and pitfalls in a teen's life vs. leaving up to chance or peer-information or just plain ignorance. Taboo topics such as masturbation are addressed with exact advice and timing suggested. The philosophy is "Don't leave anything to chance - inform your child BEFORE it happens while encouraging serious brainstorming and promoting action plans to head off destructive events that are ultimately inevitable." Another issue addressed is virginity and the distinction between being a virgin and actually being PURE. Empowerment is key - for the child as well as the parent - in the face of a permissive society which shapes our children's perceptions of values and morals. Of course, the foundation of this book is the ultimate Rule Book of all things in life - the HOLY BIBLE. But even non-Christians who want a guide on how to teach good morals and values to their teen who is trying to make sense of: 1)where they belong and 2)what they should do in this crazy world will find this book to be a true treasure. I have recommended to it countless parents and am thankful I didn't find it too late...

This book is just excellent for helping parents who don't know what to do as their children are growing into the teen years. This couple has really been there and done that! And it's wonderful that it comes from a Christian perspective, not wordly psychological garbage. This book is INDISPENSABLE. I have highlighted something on just about every page in my book. I cannot recommend this book enough. Each page contains practical things to do and watch out for. I will be reading mine over and over for years. EXCELLENT!

As I tell my friends, you won't be borrowing mine...I plan on keeping it by my bedside until my youngest is "launched"! Great hands-on advice FOR TODAY -- sharing the Rainey's own guidelines but encouraging you & your spouse to get your act together NOW & design your own. Buy this book when your first child turns ten, if possible. If not, JUST BUY IT NOW. I cannot give this book enough stars! It's practical advice with specific action plans. It's full of encouragement. What could be better as we parent the next generation?

This book is easy to read and has a lot of practical information for instilling Christian values in today's adolescent. Applicable to the late 90's teen. Great for use in a study-group setting or as Sunday School consideration for 5th or 6th graders.

This book has helped me through tough times with teens--knowing too that they have dealt with the same problems -- haven't folded under--and are there to give help to hurting parents--and even though the outcome isn't always what we expected--God is in control--and He is there to guide us through. Dennis and Barbara are REAL people with real teen problems. I thank them for writing such a helpful book.

Apparently, this is a book from experienced parents who had taught me and reminded me of things I need to know, and things I need to communicate with my kid before it is too late.

If you are a parent of a preteen or teenager... you need this book! Get two copies one for you and one for them. Read the book together and discuss each chapter. Talk about the content, how it made you feel. Here is the tough part, letting your child express their feelings without dismissing them.

I wanted to get the Kindle version of this book so that I didn't have to have another book to sit on my bookshelf. The ebook is in htmlz format not mobi.

What is the big deal you ask?

Do you like to change the font size and font of the book? Because the book is of type .htmlz. The font face is fixed. The font that the book is rendered in is very difficult to read. All of the letters that hang below the base line are rendered very thin or not at all. Imagine trying to read a word where the tail of the 'y' or 'g' isn't displayed! It looks like someone at the publisher ran the book through an OCR machine.

About every 40 to 50th word the first letter is missing, only part of the character is rendered, or the character is split into two. Not sure what is going on here but it looks like the OCR software couldn't make out the 'T' or 'H' and split them into something like '| |'. Kind of tough to figure out that is supposed to be a 'H'.

I am going to ditch the digital version and get a used printed copies to read with my preteen child.
