When Claire’s boyfriend breaks up with her under the Eiffel Tower during her Paris Holiday of a Lifetime her life is turned upside down. To bring her out of a deep depression, she decides to stay in Paris at the hotel they shared. During her stay, the hotel becomes the subject of a reality TV show to decide if the hotel should remain open with improvements or close it under the guidance of uber cocky well known chef and TV star Louis Delarue aka The Devil.
Claire starts a new life in Paris, including having a love affair with the sexy Frenchmen. She finds herself helping the staff to complete a renovation in need of a lot of work. As walls are torn down and fresh paint applied, Claire finds herself being renewed as well amid the colorful hotel employees.
Paris Lights is about the good from refusing to give up on life and love. The storytelling is perfectly pace and the romance is not rushed. The City of Lights provide the perfect backdrop. The descriptions are incredibly detailed. You will want to fly away and live there forever.
Any reader who has any sadness in their life and needs a new start will appreciate this love story. The romance between Louis and Claire is downright dreamy, sweet and perfect. Paris Lights will leave you in a loving and romantic mood. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. I can’t wait to visit the other cities through the eyes of C. J. Duggan.
I love Paris and this story reminded me of the year I spent working there, but I think if you have never visited the city, you will not get a true sense of the atmosphere merely from descriptions of the buildings. The writer could have done so much more with the setting. That she did not makes me wonder if setting it in Paris was just just an excuse for an exotic location. But I can forgive that because there was enough Paris for me. What I find less easy to forgive is misspelling "Clair de Lune" – spelled "Clare" in the book. Please, writers, if you use a foreign language in your book, get someone who knows the language to edit it for you.
I am in a quandary about reading the next story in the series. Will there be enough story to compensate for a possibly lackluster development of the atmosphere of the location? Perhaps reading reviews will help me decide.
I enjoyed Claire's character but I didn't feel Louis's character was too deep. I couldn't figure his character out. All in all this was a good book.
Paris, the hotel, the people, the romance, the food.. I just really enjoyed all of it.
The only thing I did not like is the ending. I thought it was ended to soon. I would have liked to get just a little more. Maybe even an epilogue.
I enjoyed this one enough I want to read the others in this series.
