Some of the "lower-star reviews" pick at the price. Agree; it's a bit expensive for a pedal wrench, but let's be realistic. Quality costs. This is indeed a shop-grade tool. Buy it once, use it for life. It doesn't have a fine finish but it's effective and durable. I bought this tool to address a left-hand pedal that was stuck in a carbon crank...at least "stuck" from my Craftsman 15mm box wrench's perspective. In 30+ years of cycling, I'd never had a pedal this badly stuck. Over the course of several days, I soaked the threads with Kroil then, at various intervals, tried freeing the pedal by smacking the box wrench with a rubber dead-blow mallet...hard enough and often enough that I became concerned I might accidentally damage the crank...and to no effect. Obviously, no torch heat as that would could damage the carbon matrix...the nature of the materials necessitated only chemical and mechanical methods for freeing the pedal. Once I put this wrench to task, the otherwise hopelessly stuck pedal was free in less than 10 seconds. Nice.

For my road bike, if I turn it upside down, even stuck pedals can loosen. Using my body weight over the wrench (usually my hex wrench), loosens up. Just make sure you are doing it in the right direction. For an exercise bike I was switching to clipless pedals, I couldn’t get enough strength.

Took this wrench to it and literally, within 5 seconds, it was loose. Prior to this wrench, I worked on it over and over with no luck. The long heavy handle gives you the leverage you need.

This is the right tool to loosen stuck pedals.

Don’t forget to grease the pedals when you put them back on! :)

The value for money for this product is not good, given that you can remove or install a pedal with a 15 mil wrench or 6 mil Allen wrench in some cases. However, this makes the job far easier because of the different angles at which you can hold the pedal, and the long handle gives a lot of torque without much effort (the same can be accomplished by sliding a cheater bar or 1/2 in pvc pipe over a standard 15 mil wrench. This tool looks great (especially on a tool wall), really does make a difference and I enjoy this far more than a normal wrench. Park tool definitely can through with this tool.

This is probably the strongest tool and most overdone, and could probably double as a murder weapon, which is what it really looks like when you see how large and heavy it really is LOL. Nevertheless, a great tool!

My mountain bike stock pedals cracked and needed replacement. I was tempted to just take it to a shop, but it seemed like a relatively simple fix so I attempted it with regular house tools. Used hex keys and adjustable wrenches with a long metal pipe for extra torque. Nothing. Could not get the nut loose. Figured I try getting a wrench despite it's cost for a specialty tool. WORTH EVER PENNY. Job was done in less than 5 minutes. No need to go to a bike shop.

TLTR: Buy this, save time and your knuckles.

BUY IT!! If you’re reading these reviews you’ve probably already wasted too much of your life trying to remove frozen pedals. I thought it was hyperbole when other reviewers noted fear or resignation from their stubborn pedals with the appearance of the Park Tool. Not so. It took almost as long to open the package as remove the pedals from my wife’s mountain bike (which had been on since purchased 8 years ago and ridden in wet a dirty conditions routinely). I’ll grease any new pedals I put on but part of me thinks “who cares? I’ve got the Park Tool.”

You've seen the same thing said, but I'll say it again. This wrench doesn't understand the word "stuck". I struggled to get my pedals off my bike for about a week before I gave up. Of course I wasn't going at them for a solid 168 hours. But I'd try for a while with my 15mm wrench and then blast the threads with penetrating oil, let it sit overnight, and try again. I decided to order this magical tool and within 5 minutes of me tearing apart the smile-emblazened cardboard box I had both pedals off. It might sound crazy, but my pedals and cranks actually looked a little frightened when I showed them the PW-4. They knew the game was over before they felt the touch of that cold hard steel.
The reasons I think this wrench works so well is it has a long handle for increased leverage, a deep accurate15mm slot so the wrench does not twist around the flats when applying torque, and the 2 slots give 4 orientation options. All these together combine for a superior pedal wrenching experience. This is the tool you want even if you only have 1 stubborn set of pedals to deal with.

Had the dreaded stuck left pedal on my survivor bmx bike that has seen the sun for 1st time in 33 years. Got some time now so cleaning the bike up. Obviously needed to try and save the old pat pending suntour XCIIs! Could not get pedal off to clean cranks/regrease bearings. Rounded a 15 mm "heavy duty" craftsman wrench w a 2foot breaker bar and pb blaster....the pedal was winning...

Anyway, got this tool. Pedal and crank now removed! I'll be riding again soon!

I used this to remove a set of seized pedals.
The handle is very comfortable to use.
You might want to make sure you don't use this to crank your pedals down too far without anti-seize.
It'll be tough to get off...
- 2 slots at off-angles
I would sometimes forget and hit the wrench on the ground.
Duh! Just take it off and switch slots!
You'll never have such an issue.

Little small, but it worked for my slatwall pegs.

I'm just a home mechanic, but this tool is epic!
I was at my wit's end with a set of pedals and was about to bin them (cranks were already toast).
I'd used my current pedal spanner, bathed the cranks in WD-40, heated them up with a blowtorch, when I thought I'd push the boat out on this tool.

I really thought I'd stripped the thread when I used it, but it had effortlessly undone them. Pedals saved, cost offset!

I then re-fitted all my bikes' pedals using anti-seize grease, so I probably won't need it's incredible leverage again.
I'd say be careful not to over-tighten as the leverage you can get from this thing is enough to lift Thor's hammer.

If you can get passed the price, this spanner will last a lifetime, and can then be bequeathed as part of your estate for another generation to be wowed, it's that awesome.

I needed to change the pedals on a bike I hadn’t used for years. The pedals were stuck and a standard Allen key didn’t give me enough leverage. I also had a Park Tool PW-5 pedal spanner. It was starting to round off the pedals and also didn’t have enough leverage. I bought this and the BBB pedal Allen key wrench. I tried the Allen key wrench first and that worked perfectly. I decided to keep the Park Tool as well though. It’s a lot more robust and has a longer handle than the PW-5 so I’m going to keep it and sell the old one.

I therefore can’t review how the spanner works but I can say it’s better than the PW-5 and would definitely do the job no matter how tight your pedals.

I'm telling ya, don't even think of buying anything but the Park Tool pedal spanner, Yes I know people say there are others out there just as good, but honestly there isn't!
I've used other brands for half the price & I've moved many a pedal with them, but, when things get tough with a stubborn pedal, this bad boy will shift the tightest of the tightest! were others fail.
This is for the PW-4, I'm not sure what the difference is from the PW-3 apart from the off-set open ends but I can imagine to just as effective.

This pedal spanner is awesome! I had been battling unsuccessfully for over two hours to remove stuck pedals recently with my regular tools, and after reading about the Park Tool PW-4 I decided to take the plunge and splash the cash. Well it arrived today and all I can say is the wrench is unbelievable. I had removed the most stubborn pedal in less than a minute with minimal effort due to its incredible leverage. Highly recommended and I know it will last for years and years as it's so solid and well made. I never thought I could get this excited about a bike tool but it really is the last word in pedal removal. Worth every penny!
