Last night I filled a Hero 812 fountain calligraphy pen with it, drew some lines and shapes on paper, The ink is what I'd call a medium blue, but it has a definite green cast to it. When I hit it with the water brush, I wound that it is water soluble, and turns a pale green.
The ink was not what I expected, but I have found it useful and the green tone was actually a nice surprise.
The blue-black color won't "wow" you, but it is easy to read when poring back over notes. It starts off as a rather dark blue, and dries slightly lighter, with a blue-green-grey look. Interesting to note is that it is in no way "blue-black." More of an off blue than anything.
The resulting look brings to mind the memo pad of a 1940s journalist, or perhaps the color Dagwood Bumstead wrote with before he sold out and went all ballpoint. It is an everyman color that gets the job done without being offensive, like a Honda, or a ham and cheese sandwich with mustard for lunch.
Fairly, this product should get less stars for being so misleading about the whole "blue-black" thing. The color somehow grows on you anyway, though. I use this ink more often than any other. It also gets bonus points for being so very reliable.
Also, the bottle is a well built, stubby little thing with a cap that feels and behaves like... the ever coveted Bakelite! I don't think it is actual bakelite, but it definitely isn't normal PVC.
On a final note, this ink is now exactly the same as Waterman blue-black. Both Parker and Waterman are owned by Rubbermaid, and the original Parker color has been thrown to the wayside in favor of this one. Therefore, this review extends to Waterman Blue-Black as well. Amazon sells both, so buy whichever is cheapest per milliliter.
So now I just needed an ink to replace the ink I have grown accustom to. I decided on Parker Quink. It seems to be an okay ink. It takes about the same time to dry, about 10-15 seconds, as I'm used to. It lays down a nice blue/black ink and looks the same when it has first dried. However, after a few days it turns to a sort of light blue/teal color, which is not what I was looking for. Mixing this 80/20 with Mont Blanc Irish Green, Mont Blanc being the latter, makes for a nice blue/green ink.
It's not what I expected, but isn't horrible either.
Again, I like the color and the ink is of decent quality, but it isn't quite what I expected color-wise. It looks best on yellow or off-white paper.
