Ufortunately it died suddenly in the middle
of my second gardening season. There is no
way to fix it (sealed, no fuses) and it is
just past warranty period. I guess you get
what you pay for...I expect a good quality
charger to last at least 10 years, not just
over one year!
After a few muggy days, I notice that condensation was present in the gauge, but it didn't seem to have an affect on the functionality. I had read several post about the charger, and the moisture in the gauge seems pretty common.
Unfortunately 26 days after purchase, it quit working. We hooked it up to a fully charged marine battery, and the guage would peak out for a minute or two, then it would die... It was so disappointing. Fortunately the feed store I purchased it from gave me a full cash refund.
Made in USA
The METER showing it is working
Strong voltage 'kick'
Not 'weather proof'
no 'mounting bracket for metal fence posts'
This 'fencer' has a -healthy- 'shock' that should discourage any animal, even larger ones. It's nice to be able to see how it's working (meter) without having to check it by shorting the fence to ground for a 'spark'.
While it appears to be well made I cannot understand why anyone would make a 'battery operated' fencer that is not weather proof and has no bracket for mounting to a metal fence post - so I am knocking off one star.
Parmak if you are listening - Here is how I would suggest you test these - hook up to a big 12-14V @ 600-700 CCA deep cycle battery and fully short the unit for 6 hrs 2-3 times a day while you cycle it in an environmental chamber from -10F to 120F degrees and vary the humidity from 0 to 95%. If it fails within 3 years redesign whatever failed. Figure out why you are getting warranty returns and address those issues too. Rinse lather repeat until you get it right.
Regardless, they work well. The dial tells you when it's time to recharge the battery. If you don't buy this model, make sure and buy another that has a voltage meter on it. The shock it gives is substantial - at least on a quarter-mile line. Not damaging. But it makes you not want to touch it again. Similar to touching a spark plug while it's firing.

Great charger. This is like the old "weed burners" we used to have when I was a kid. Long time on battery. Probably will buy a second one.Published 2 days ago by lajararider
