Turns out the jump mechanism is as terrible as everyone says it is. I only got 3 or 4 jumps out of it before it broke. I opened it up to see what was going on and saw what is probably one of the most terribly engineered things I've seen in a consumer product in a long time. They're using the thin plastic retraction disk to not only cock the jump mechanism (with what must be at least 5 lbs of spring force behind it), that same disk has to arrest the mechanism's movement after it's triggered. No wonder it cracks after a couple jumps. I have no idea how this made it into production, there's no way they didn't see this in testing.
I made a metal reinforcement to repair the broken part and got another ~50 jumps out of it, but that eventually came apart because it was holding together the already broken wheel. I think it will work OK if I get a new retraction wheel and reinforce it before it breaks.
It makes a variety of annoying noises, and even if you don't drive it, its battery will drain after only about an hour off the charger.
The camera relays no audio -- probably because the designers know that you can never drive it far enough away to not be able to hear what its microphone would hear.
What a waste of money. I should have learned my lesson from 2 years ago, when I bought a Parrot quad copter. After a few weeks, and maybe a dozen flights, the charger and/or the battery stopped working.
Parrot makes junk. I should have read the critical reviews, and not pinned my hopes on the presence of a few 5-star reviews.
