Many have written here about which wire is which, but the true test is a continuity check of the wires. The negative is always connected to the can and the positive is connected to the pin inside.

So the product works great once its connected properly. Installation itself is easy, just strip and crimp. The things is that the the only differentiation between the wires is the white writting on one. I could be way off base here, but in my expereince the writting typically designates the (+) possitive wire.

So when I hooked this up the first time I wired it as such, insterted my phone power adapter and promptly blew it out ($20) down the drain.

Lesson learned: always use a multitmeter to figure out which cable is which. In this case the wire with the writting on it is (-).

I have since installed several of these for friends to have a hardwired cellphone power cable that is hidden behind the dash and doesn't occupy the factory cigarette lighter.

Great price - Great Product - Lack of proper Labeling

The one I received has the 'can' exposed on the outer ring (the "lip") so I had to cover it with electrical tape otherwise if it touched something else grounded, it blows the fuse (which is what happened to me). Also, the wire with the letters on them is negative, which is typically not the case. Other than that it worked fine.

This was exactly the part I needed to help wire my dashcam to my fuse box in my truck (along with a "Add-a-Circuit" splitter).
The short cable was fine for me as I tucked this behind my dash out of sight. The lip on mine was metallic as others have mentioned, but that's the ground connection so no biggie.

We've slowly been upgrading the tree stands that we use for deer hunting and recently started dropping batteries in with solar panels to top them off. The primary use has been to wire in some lighting to make it easier to get set up in the morning and pack up in the evening. But, it gives the added benefit of having 12v DC power available for topping off phones, iPods, or even running an iPad or netbook like my uncle likes to do during the long mid-day hours when the deer don't move around as much.

Of all the various options I found to add power ports to the tree stands that I looked at this was by far the easiest I could find. I was easily able to splice two of these into the 12v power line I have coming off the battery and then use a couple of pipe straps to hold them in place. It may not be the prettiest piece of wiring ever, but hey I have power in my tree stand now.

This 12-VDC power receptacle seems sufficiently put together, heavy enough gauge to power my radio gear, and my continuity test was good. I haven't had time to put this into service just yet, so I'll follow up if I discover any issues.

Excellent buy as you can create your own cig lighter socket anywhere you want in your car, add extras, etc. No longer slaved to what you got in your stock vehicle. I have one going to the rear seats and one to the trunk so I can use it as a socket for my tire air inflator. Make sure to get an add a fuse kit as well to make the installation seamlessly easy and safe.

Works just like its supposed to. I used this Jack on a hunting vehicle roof rack to plug in spotlights..it works great. As the previous reviewers mentioned, the wire with the writing on it is the GROUND (-) and the plain wire is the HOT (+). Dont get these mixed up or you'll blow out whatever you plug in. Easy installation and a solidly built product
