Author is generous in sharing tips and giving prompts for exploration. I work on paper and I just wanted the book to get some ideas on color combinations. I'm still going through the book and will refer to it to study the pictures to get ideas. It is good for that . The book seems more geared to fabric dyeing experiments. So still good if you use those suggestions as ideas for paper.

I love Ruth Isett. I was lucky enough to take a class from her several years ago and she has a marvelous take on color and how to get the colors that you want. I especially liked the way that she used simple stitches to accent color. Almost all of the things that she has highlighted are doable by most people. True eye candy!

This book is beautiful to hold and the colour printing is first class, but thereit stops. While very bright and cheerful. the colour combinations could be more attractive/subtle as a whole. I don't really like the end products, which like home-dyed (positive sense) strips of rufflette curtain tape -(actually hand embroidery. There are also stacks of different shades of material. Nett result looks good on a page and what I would describe as a 'coffee table' book, but there is nothing I want to use as inspiration or particularly like, Instruction isn't immediately obvious- but reading the book will explain her approach. Not a book I would have bought if I had seen it in a bookshop, as you gather the textiles were not to my taste. I was rather seduced by the cover, I am sure others will get more out of it!

This is a beautiful book - perhaps one of the most inspiring and interesting I've ever read on this subject (and I've read lots). Ruth Issett explains her subject with passion (she truly lives up to her title) and excitement which transmits itself to the reader. There are lots of really useful tips whether you are experienced in using colour and in dyeing and printing textiles or a comparative beginner. There are also some mouth-watering examples of her work and an excellent section towards the end of the book which take you through her process.
If you are interested in textile art and colour, this is a must-have addition to your library.
