Who doesn’t love a scavenger hunt? Author Shanna Silva does a wonderful job of entertaining, while educating the reader about a Passover tradition. Hiding the afikomen is passed down from Great-Uncle Harry to one of the children. I love that instead of eliminating Uncle Harry’s participation in the tradition, a bond between old and young is created. The narrative is lively, the “clue” verses are fun to read, and the illustrations are vivid and bring Ms. Silva’s story to life.

A delightful story that engages readers as they join Rachel and her cousins on an Afikomen Scavenger Hunt. Readers will enjoy solving Rachel’s clever riddles that provide clues to solve a puzzle that leads to the afikomen. What I love about the story is how information about Passover is woven into the clues. My grandchildren are now inspired to do a scavenger hunt with riddle poems for this upcoming Passover!

This Passover, Rachel wants to hide the afikomen, since Great-Uncle Harry always picks the same spots. In Shanna L. Silva’s Passover Scavenger Hunt, Rachel creates clues that are not only fun, but also teach about the items on the seder plate. This is a fun-to-read story that gives young readers the opportunity to figure out the clues along with Rachel’s cousins. Miki Sakamoto’s art is realistic and cheery. Maybe someone in your family will create their own scavenger hunt! A new tradition is born!

Rachel's idea to do a Passover scavenger hunt to find the afikomen is very clever! She worked so hard writing clues in rhyme, making the puzzle pieces, and putting everything together. Once each child character found a clue, which led to a puzzle piece, they all had to work together to then be able to find the afikomen. Cooperation instead of crying at a seder once someone else finds the afikomen is genius. I just may have to do this at my seder this year!

On Passover, Rachel comes up with a clever way how to hide the afikomen and help her friends find it by writing clues that take the children step by step to the hiding spot.
This book really appealed to me because I love scavenger hunts and the author cleverly interweaved Passover information in every clue.
The illustrations are warm and inviting and the story encourages children to take an active role at their Seder.

This lively picture book will be a welcome addition to everyone's Passover reading and seder. I love how Rachel encourages her cousins to work together to solve the clues and assemble puzzle pieces of Passover riddles. And great-uncle Harry also joins in the afikomen scavenger hunt, building connection between the generations. The lovely illustrations perfectly complement the text and add to the fun of the story.
