POSITIVE:
1. The drives works extremely fast in RAID 0 (Striped) configuration. According to my Blackmagic it's over double the speed of my WD My Passport Ultra (USB3 connection on a MacBookPro).
2. The fan doesn't come on very often.
3. Price per GB is excellent compared to Sold State Drives

NEGATIVE:
1. The fan in the unit is EXTREMELY LOUD. It sounds like cheap hairdryer. Loud enough for people in a coffee shop to start looking around to find the source of the noise.
2. The fan seems to come on for no reason whatsoever. (i.e. no file transfers occurring and it starts... not quite sure why)
3. The disk has failed after 3 days... running the "Disk Utility" from my Mac I see that disk 2 has "failed".

Always back up your data... I haven't lost anything but I would be furious if I had.
I will be getting a replacement. Hopefully it won't have the same issue, but looking online there appear to be several people who have experienced a failure of one of the disks.

CONCLUSION:
Proceed with caution...

I posted a near identical review on the Apple Store website... that review and several other negative reviews now seem to be deleted. I asked written to Apple and they have not replied. You can draw your own conclusion on the Apple Store's actions as I will only state fact as any further comment could potentially be construed as libel.

This drive has great build quality, compact design, and seamless operation. While the niche Western Digital is trying to hit may be small -- users that want either RAID 1 (mirroring) or RAID 0 (striping) it succeeds in satisfying that niche with aplomb. I am particularly impressed by the build quality of the case -- it is aluminum on all sides with a plastic top and has the heft and sturdiness of a desktop drive. This is considerably more hefty than the Seagate Backup Fast drive. The only downside is the Thunderbolt cable is not removable, as I can see that being the failure point in the drive.

The WD My Passport Pro 2TB is actually a very well built piece of kit. It's quite heavy, though. The 2TB model weighs in on my scale at a hair over 1lb.

Out of the box, plugged into my 2012 iMac (running Mavericks), the drive was picked up instantly, running by default in RAID 0 configuration (HFS, journaled). This is the least safe method of data preservation, but certainly the fastest available for this device. Much like the Western Digital My Book Thunderbolt Duo for desktops, this device is using software for its RAID. There are positives and negatives for hardware vs software RAID implementations, and I won't delve into this too much here. Apple's basic RAID software included in OS X isn't exactly stellar, though. (I prefer using SoftRAID, which - while pricey - is just a brilliant piece of software for OS X).

A couple of minor issues:

1.) If you break the Thunderbolt cable, the whole device is useless, as the cable is integrated. Be careful to tuck the cable away into its holder when you're done.

2.) There's a small fan in this enclosure, and I hope it's a long-lasting one, as - again - I don't see how you could replace it.

3.) If you run a RAID 1 mirror array, if one drive fails you cannot simply replace it as you can on the Western Digital dual-drive desktop 3.5" RAID enclosures. You'll have to copy the data off, send the drive in, and then wait for a replacement. Not exactly ideal... I tried to see if I could open it up, but even removing the four accessible screws - the enclosure didn't want to come apart.

4.) It's not a cheap setup. Especially since it's not even using a hardware RAID implementation, I'm surprised it costs so much.

5.) There's a small fan in this unit.

WD My Passport Pro 2TB portable RAID storage with integrated Thunderbolt cable (WDBRMP0020DBK-NESN)

Apr. 15: New out of the box, configured drive as RAID 0 on my sig machine (10.9.2).

Apr. 15: Transferred 400+GB file to the drive, ***300+MB/s transfer rate****. Unplugged drive until..

Apr. 21: Connected drive, not using it, but within minutes receive the "don't eject drives without dismounting" error. Worried, thought "did it go to sleep and dismount on it's own?"

Reconnected, no problem. Within another several minutes, same thing. Could not reconnect/mount this time. Looked at WD Drive Config utility, and says that the drive 2 stripe failed. Nice. Had passed all diagnostic tests before.

Erased both drives with Mac's disk utility, and used the WD Drive Config utility to setup as RAID 0 again.

Restored lost data via Time Machine (epic win)

Apr. 23: Worked for a few hours in FCP, backed up everything before going to bed.

Apr. 24: Opened notebook to find drive had dismounted from stripe failure again. Created RMA with Western Digital.

Western Digital says I'll get a replacement drive within 3-5 business days. At this point, if I set this one up and get another failure within the 3-year warranty period, my confidence with this drive will be quite shaken.

I'll try to update. This is a new drive for WD; between the drives, the RAID configuration, their RAID utility, and Mavericks, hopefully this device gets ironed out quickly (unless of course, I really did hit the lottery with this failed drive.)
