I read the book to the baby, turning the pages gingerly. He LOVED the story. My 2 older children got home from school, saw the book, and wanted to read to their little brother. I warned them to be careful & they were, however, the book just fell apart in my autistic 7 year old's hands. A regular functioning child might understand that it's not their fault, but not my child. He was extremely upset and now the book falls apart every time we read it. The baby is crazy about it, so we'll try to figure something out to use as an alternative binder.
If you're looking to purchase this book for yourself or as a gift, try to find one without the plastic comb binder :( What a disappointment.
As I mentioned in my ‘Pat the Bunny’ flat blanky review, I was not familiar with this story prior to purchasing it for my GRANDdaughter, Londi. I read that it’s been around for over 60 years….where have I been? Since this book was shipped directly to my GRANDdaughter. I guess I’m going to have to get me a copy to read for myself.
Two year old Londi is particularly delighted with touch and feel books. This book is an excellent choice for toddlers who are beginning to explore the world around them though touch and sight. Londi’s mama says it is now her favorite book and she keeps it with her all the time ---- naptime, eating, shopping, running from her older sister, and even sitting on the couch and reading (memorized) the pages to her other toys –this book never leaves her side.
Repetition is one of the best methods for teaching children and this book is written with simple to understand repetitive verses. For a more enriching reading experience, I would recommend showing your child how to imitate what is happening in the book.
The book itself is not too big for little fingers to flip through the pages and they can carry it around easily. Some of my own kids childhood books have been so heavy, big, and awkward, that they couldn’t even get them on their lap.
This endearing tale is sure become a treasure book and keepsake that I know my GRANDdaughter will want to hand down to her children.
