About Pat Griffith
It started out as a vicarious activity. I wrote stories about things I wanted to experience. For example: finding an island of living dinosaurs or hanging out with robots from another planet. This is still a pretty big motivator. I wish I could move things with my mind, teleport, and literally kick ass. At this time I can't do any of those things so the writing will go on.
I will write even if I never have any readers. Like real people, my characters deserve to be known and appreciated for who they are and that is what motivates me right now. I am working hard to make their stories known to the rest of you. I hope you get the chance know them.
I spent my childhood playing super heroes at recess and Star Wars after school. I wrote my first adventure story in sixth grade and haven't stopped yet. I currently live and breathe in San Francisco where I graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in Creative Writing.
Favorite authors include but are not limited to: Margret Atwood, Ray Bradbury, David Eggers, Issac Asimov, Stephen Lawhead, Michael Chabon, Orson Scott Card.
Favorite things in general: Transformers G1, Doctor Who, Firefly, snowflakes, stars, dinosaurs, ninjas, jokes about ninjas, irony and sarcasm (not necessarily in that order), science, Korben Dallas, flying on airplanes and/or jumping out of them, the BBC, and so on. That should give you a pretty good idea about me.
Oh! Han shot first.

Blog postIf you're a writer type, it's possible that you have heard about this little thing called National Novel Writing Month. I did NaNoWriMo for the first time in 2009. It was spontaneous choice I made on October 31st. As suggested by the NaNo handbook, I acrually started with "Once upon a time." I had no idea what my story was going to be about at all. And yet... something happened.
Here's the thing you need to know about my writing process. I spend years mulling over my1 month ago Read more -
Blog postBook 3, Interation, is completely written. It's not edited, but it has a proper begining, middle, and end. After finishing the third installment I realized that book 1, Trespassing, needed a little retcon (retroactive continuity) work.
So here we are with the 2nd edition. Expanded with new scenes and updated so that it flows together with the events of book 3. Book 2 will need a couple of things changed, but not nearly to the level that Trespassing needed it.

Blog postI know, I know. It;s been long time since I posted. Way longer than I would like to admit, but I have been busy. Plus I dom't liking blogging. It's not true to who I am so I don't do it that often. You can read about that here:
Why I stopped blgging.
I will be updating soon. I just approved the cover art for my graphic novel. That was a whole ordeal unto itself. AND I will be turning over Trespasing 2.0 over to my editor in a few weeks. Which is the thing I actually&nbs9 months ago Read more -

Blog postJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom comes out this week. I am looking forward to it. I have seen some of the headline reviews for it. Not good. But I don’t care because – dinosaurs. Someone said to me, you mean Chris Pratt. Don’t get me wrong, I love Chris Pratt but for me it’s about all the dinosaurs. The trailers are absolutely bonkers. I am not expecting an Oscar nomination kind of movie. I am expecting loads of dinosaurs.

Blog postYou poor, delusional soul.
People have this idea that they can write a book because they can write a sentence. Not to downplay that achievement at all, but writing a book that a total stranger will want to read is a lot more than the accumulation of sentences. You have to make a total stranger care enough about what is on the page to finish the book and THEN, if you’re good and maybe somewhat lucky, they will tell another person about it, who in turn may decide to read it too. Blog postI’m done!
Sort of.
I can’t believe it took me almost three years to get through the first draft of book 3. But I have completed the final scene, full story arc complete with an inciting incident, defeats and victories, and of course the climax and falling action.
But wait there’s more!
The first draft, phase 1, is just the beginning. On to phase 2, the rewriting. This is where I get to take all the feedback I’ve gotten2 years ago Read more -

Blog postIt's been a couple of weeks now and I think I can safely say I was wrong on all accounts except #2 and I give myself half a point for #4.
As I said I would be happy to be wrong and happy I am. It took sometime for this one to sink in. Part of that is on me, I let me expectations get away from me so when this movie went places I did not think possible it took time to absorb. Same was true for Force Awakens. Blog postWith the next installment of the Skywalker Saga only 7 weeks away it’s hard to contain my excitement. I have detached myself from all social media chatter because I don’t want have any more expectations than I already do. But if you are interested here are my predictions for what will happen.
1) “When I found you… something special.” Is Snoke talking to Rey.
2) “I need someone to help me find my place in all of this.” Rey talking to Luke.

Blog postPhoto credit: http://www.afrikanmbiu.com/ “Good things come to those who wait.” A popular mantra since 1892. I recently saw a modified version of that quote that crossed out “wait” and replaced it with “work their asses off.” In this case, both are true.
Some of you have asked, and I really appreciate your interest, when book three will be out. My original hope had been this year, already. I had hoped to be done with it in 2015. But alas, that is not the case. It WILL be2 years ago Read more -
