Patagonia's reason for being: Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire, and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. Patagonia grew out of a small company that made tools for climbers, as a result Alpinism remains at the heart of a worldwide business that still makes clothing and shoes for climbing--as well as for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling and trail running. In each of these sports, the reward comes in the form of hard-won grace and moments of connection between the athlete and nature. Patagonia's values reflect those of a business started by a band of climbers and surfers, and the minimalist style they promoted; the approach they take towards product design demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility. At Patagonia, a love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them, and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of the planet. Patagonia donates their time, services and at least 1% of sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups all over the world who work to help reverse the tide, and they work steadily to reduce any pollution and harms caused by their business activity. They use recycled polyester in many of their clothes and only organic, rather than pesticide-intensive, cotton. Staying true to their core values during thirty-plus years in business has helped create a company the employees are proud to run and work for, and their focus on making the best products possible has brought success in the marketplace.

They do make a really annoying rubbing sound when I walk by the tongue. Probably the only complaint I'll Have and I assume that will fade. Can't wait to go try these bad boys out on the trails though.... I think I'll want to run in them, they are extremely soft to step in. I'm comparing to any shoe I've ever owned. Would purchase again, if I believed in buying the same shoe twice.
On top of that, they look VERY cheaply made. Very fake/plasticy looking "leather" with sloppy adhesive at the seams. If it weren't for the Patagonia logo, I would have assumed these came from Walmart.
This is my observation after owning Keen targhee ii , Salomon quest 4d, Vasque breeze 2(this comes second).
The least contact area and the architecture of the sole gives a forward thrust.
The vibram lug pattern on this shoe provide amazing grip. But as they are hard, they tend to slip on wet granite. But which shoe does'nt slip on wet granite? The least slippage till now is seen by me in the Salomon xa pro 3d 2014 model, because the sole compensates the slippage by having different densities of rubber for the lugs.
A shoe like the Nomad 2 is also useful for wearing them to the office.
As to the downsides of the shoes, I list the following with my experience.
a) As the lugs are hard and the default insole is little soft, one may experience little uncomfortability in the back. I replaced the insole with that of the Keen targhee ii, and everything is fine now.
b) Need to order atleast 1/2 size larger shoe.
a)Comfortable, nimble, amazing forward thrust like the Vasque breeze 2.
b) Ultimate protection from rocks all around the shoe.
c)Tenacious grip on trails and very stable on rocky paths..
d) The shoe shank is robust and reduces the strain on the feet when walking on uneven path.
e) the right fit ensures a feet hugging upper.
