Patagonia's reason for being: Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire, and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. Patagonia grew out of a small company that made tools for climbers, as a result Alpinism remains at the heart of a worldwide business that still makes clothing and shoes for climbing--as well as for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling and trail running. In each of these sports, the reward comes in the form of hard-won grace and moments of connection between the athlete and nature. Patagonia's values reflect those of a business started by a band of climbers and surfers, and the minimalist style they promoted; the approach they take towards product design demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility. At Patagonia, a love of wild and beautiful places demands participation in the fight to save them, and to help reverse the steep decline in the overall environmental health of the planet. Patagonia donates their time, services and at least 1% of sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups all over the world who work to help reverse the tide, and they work steadily to reduce any pollution and harms caused by their business activity. They use recycled polyester in many of their clothes and only organic, rather than pesticide-intensive, cotton. Staying true to their core values during thirty-plus years in business has helped create a company the employees are proud to run and work for, and their focus on making the best products possible has brought success in the marketplace.

Original review below:
These are fantastic waterproof lightweight hiking shoes. They provide a lot of support--my foot felt cradled as soon as I put them on. They are also fairly wide in the toes, so I had plenty of wiggle room even with thick hiking socks. The length seems true to size. I did find that the heel slipped a bit at first, but I tried a different lacing technique and it solved that issue. They were comfortable from the start and didn't require much in the way of breaking in time.
I tested the waterproof claim by stepping in and out of a few inches of water in my bathtub. I wouldn't be standing still in water while wearing them, just crossing over small creeks and stepping in the occasional puddle, and I'm confident that my feet will stay dry. I did give it a few seconds to see if water would start leaking in, especially around the seams, and there was no problem
Also, I think they're pretty cute. I got the "canteen" color with brown and purple, and they go with pretty much all of my outdoor clothes. They also work well with jeans if I want to wear something comfortable around the mall. Mine have gotten a little muddy over the past few weeks and don't look any worse for the wear.
As soon as I got these, I wore them all day around the city to break them in and did about 11 miles. At the end of the day, my feet didn't hurt and I was blister free. They're fantastic. The construction is wonderful, the materials are quality and sturdy, and it's been fairly waterproof so far in basic rainy conditions. I haven't stepped in a puddle and fully submerged the sole, so I can't fully review that aspect.
I would definitely recommend this, and I would buy another pair for more than I paid.
So many shoes I buy on line have to be returned for poor fit, so I'll add the info:
I wear a size 9 1/2
I have a narrow heel and wide center, some larger sizes Minnie Mouse on me due to narrow heel.
In sneakers and boots I order 1/2 to 1 full size larger.
I must have generous toe room for my old feet or I get a burning sensation.
After reading other feedback and having seen these rated highly in Outdoor magazine, I took a chance on size 10, perfection. No heel slip but good room in front.
I hope this info helps another person like me
