I'm Stephen Haunts, the author of The Path to Freedom - Starting a Business for the Reluctant Entrepreneur. I am a small business owner who lives in Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. I have a background in software development and leadership and now run a small single person company creating online training courses and books.Like many people, I was reluctant to start a business because of a fear of failure and being averse to taking on personal and financial risk. I liked the idea of working for myself and being free to design my future, but it scared me to take the leap. What I found though was once I got started, it was not nearly as bad as I expected. The reason? I started a small part-time business while I still worked for my regular employer. I built my business at a pace I was comfortable with and I didn't even consider going full-time running my business until I was ready. In this book, I take you through everything I learnt along the way so that I can hopefully ease your own fears and turn you from a reluctant entrepreneur into a successful entrepreneur. I will not claim that this is the only business book you will ever need. No book can do that, but by reading The Path to Freedom, and working your way through the included workshop exercises, I can help you discover your business idea and execute on it.With the help of this book, you can be successful, and you can do it without taking on debt, stress, and anxiety. I read the Audible version of this book. It is an easy-to-follow, comprehensive guide that explains everything you need to know to be prepared for when working towards a self-employment lifestyle. It's written in an easy-to-follow fashion and is not too technical or boring in any way. It's inspirational and provides a wealth of knowledge to all entrepreneurs.

When we come to this time in life where collective consciousness is being fed by social media and Youtube about how a normal job won’t let you get there where you are powerful enough to get to in life, and you start not only thinking, but even doing your “homework” to become financially free. But then you realize it is not only not easy, but might even seem a little impossible if you are not oriented enough.

This book is a very honest and good-willed step by step description of this “pathway” to walk to, where you can thrive through your process if you have in mind everything he warns and informs you about. The author not only relates his own process and results with detailed narration, but also gives you examples of what to do and what not to do. Why is important keeping your job as you develop your own business. How he organized himself with his millionaire idea until he finally could quit his job and make a living out of his passion and dream.

I think not everybody is so willing to give you those golden advices and be so honest about how you too, can make your own passion a fountain of profit as you enjoy doing what you love. But also, you really have to work hard on that. I really appreciated reading this book, because, me, myself, I’m trying hard to fight against the system and get out of it. And what a better way than receiving wise advices of what to do and not to do, even gives you ideas of businesses of someone who dared and succeeded and is open to share with the world without fear. I’m really thankful to this author and wish him a very successful future.

The A to Z to starting a business

The Path to Freedom as a book about the steps to starting and maintaining a business is about as well written, clear, and concise as any you can find out there in the market today. There is not an area or issue that the author fails to address when one takes on the challenge of starting a business. From what type of business, whether to go full or part time, whether to hire employees or contractors, whether to rent an office, and funding to tax preparation and marketing. All of this is explained for both online and brick and mortar operations. The Pros and Cons of each option are spelled out and elaborated on in a manner that is easy to understand. In other words, you do not need to have an MBA degree to understand the explanations given.

The most important aspect of this book for me are the psychological issues that plague most people when they declare an intent to start a business. Those psychological issues mainly revolve around fear of failure and "imposter syndrome'. The author addresses these issues in such a way that will give the reader courage and a means to plan and test the market before they jump off the deep end. Finally, the author gives detailed examples from his own journey from employee to entrepreneur and how he addressed each one of these psychological issues as well as the technical aspects of owning and operating your own business in an easy to understand conversational style. I for one feel like I have more tools for overcoming my own hesitancy on my own path to freedom after reading this book. I believe you will as well.

The Most Helpful Book So Far

When I downloaded this book I wasn't sure what to expect, as I have read quite a few books that kinda rehashed common sense and didn't offer much in the way of real help. I am the definition of a reluctant entrepreneur, as I have the desire to do things, but I didn't have any idea where to start. This book covers pretty much all the bases.

As I was reading, my mind would bring up questions, but the author fills in all your blanks. It doesn't matter what kind of business you wish to start, or if it's hobby, part time or full time, you're going to find all that information here, including sources so you can find more. There is no glossing over the down sides either, and he doesn't try to give you false promises or get rich quick schemes, just the knowledge you need to get started on your journey.
