In an extremely uplifting manner, I felt Dr. Linda Ferguson guiding me toward a path for greatness by encouraging me to find a way to live and work in a sacred way. "Working spiritually," as she states, "involves seeing our tasks and daily interactions as an opportunity to proclaim the divine within us and beyond us. It is in the fulfillment of ourselves in our work that we find and serve God." Rarely does it seem that people look upon their jobs with the joy she describes we can achieve if we focus on doing our work in a manner to serve a higher good. She presents the material in a very readable and flowing style calling on a personal wisdom that is contagious.
I really appreciated her efforts in drawing together spirituality and work. The Puritan work ethic she describes is one that was instilled in me. That in itself created a blindness that prevented me from recognizing that there could be something different. Fortunately, I was raised Quaker and that seemed to soften the apparent harsh difference between spirituality and work, though it was still present. I would love to see the model she presents be the one that replaces the Puritan work ethic!
I also appreciated the thoughtfulness and care that she used in presenting many different faiths and ways of being. In a working environment chances are one works with many different people. She excludes no one.
I've always been blessed to recognize opportunity when it is presented to me and am a firm believer that I am being guided along the way learning what I need for the next step. Coming across her book at this time was intentional, I'm sure. I was becoming overwhelmed with state of certain events in our country and the war. Her book reminded me of the balance that there is.
I was very encouraged with her work with organizations. The 3 non-profit organizations I have been involved with could have clearly benefited from her book. The work that she is doing is incredibly valuable in providing the clarity I believe, so many are seeking. The exercises at the end of the chapters with suggested opportunities for retreats and seminars are clearly the steps to be taken in achieving a path for greatness through work as spiritual service. How wonderful it would be if everyone practiced the principles outlined in this book. Her book made an incredibly strong impact on me. It helped my re-examine my work with clarity and intention that has changed my life. I have recommended her book to several organizations as well as personal friends and I recommend her book to anyone who questions their purpose in life.

Thank you, Dr. Linda J. Ferguson. Your book asks many worthwhile questions, and leads the reader toward his/her own answers through concrete exercises, quotes, anecdotes, and examples. The topic of spirituality in the workplace is a sensitive one, which you handle with grace and wisdom. I have the feeling I should buy a Starbucks discount card to hedge the cost of the many, many cups of coffee I will be buying for myself and friends as we chew over the ideas in this book. I hope this is the first in a series -- I expect each will raise more questions than it is possible to answer, but that's the nature of pursuing enlightenment, isn't it?
