In an era when people are relying on gimmicky rulebooks for snagging a date, it's refreshing to read a book that reminds us to dip our empty hearts into the wellspring of spirit. Only then will we be able to fill our lives with the love we long to give and receive. Although Deepak Chopra's message isn't new, his delivery is eloquent and original. The built-in questions and tests about projection, sexuality, and attachment are as helpful as a weekend couples workshop. Those who aren't in a relationship, but long to be, are invited to forego the cute tricks to entice a date, and instead ignite the passion of spirit, which naturally draws moths to the flame. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
From Publishers Weekly
Chopra has moved in his writing career from a focus on the body and healing (Ageless Body, Timeless Mind) toward more overtly spiritual subjects, skillfully tying bits of wisdom about the spiritual underpinnings of life to materialistic Western concerns (The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success). Here, he gently weans his readers from what he sees as the addictive, culture-fueled belief that love is to be found outside one's self, urging readers to shift their focus to the inner experience of their own hearts so that they might come to discover that true love comes from the Self, which Chopra sees as identical to God. Affirming the value of psychotherapy for chasing down the demons behind low self-esteem, Chopra maintains that "a lasting solution to whether you are deserving or not will only come spiritually." Making his discussion of the divine energy of love user-friendly by providing exercises for evaluating the hidden feelings and expectations that strangle our experiences, Chopra bravely tackles difficult subjects like the suffering of attachment and karma. Although inquiring readers will long for more detail and more discriminating wisdom about the secrets and the pitfalls of the "Way," Chopra convinces that love really does come from within. Simply and encouragingly describing the Vedic concept of the divinity of the Self, he proves himself here to be the most effective disseminator and translater of ancient Vedic wisdom for Western audiences in recent times. If you want to learn how to fall in love with yourself (not in an ego way) then read this gem. It is the one experience everyone should have.
I have something called PTSD that also contributed to my cold heartedness. If you are looking for something to help HEAL the heart and become open to love once again, this book is for you.
I also got this book because I needed a break from reference books, something I'm prone to buying. This book actually tells stories on love and encourages the welcoming of love. Not only that, but it also opens the mind and reminds you of what love truly is. Something I believe I had forgotten over time or possibly dismissed as setting myself up into vulnerability in order to get hurt. Not so.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, particularly those who have lacked the ability to acknowledge their higher self and the ability to love.
However, I cannot recommend the service provided by Amazon and its vendor when I placed a second order for the book. After my order was placed (and charged to my credit card), I was notified that it would not ship for about two weeks. Then, I was told that I could not change my order. Indeed, I did change it by writing to the vendor and asking to have it canceled. Turns out, she (vendor) was able to ship the book sooner, and, in fact, was on her way to ship it when she discovered my email message. But, her tone with me in her email response was so offensive, that I asked her to cancel my order, remove the charge from my card;and recommended that she have a discussion with Amazon.
Clearly the two vendors were giving out conflicting information. I think, however, that what will remain with me is her tone in her message. I was so offended that I will not order from this vendor
again and I extend my offense to Amazon as well. No customer should have to endure this amount of grief with a vendor for reasons beyond his/her control. Amazon and Ginger: Get it together here. There are other booksellers on the internet and the competition is pretty fierce.
At times, I found his writing to be quite cerebral, littered with theory. I found myself having to read certain chapters over again to feel like I was getting the true sense of what he was trying to get across. It's certainly not a sit back and read at the beach type of read for me... but rather a text that I felt compelled to delve into and study.
In "The Path to Love," Deepak Chopra blends modern day wisdom with ancient insight and myths. This is a reflective study of love's many stages (from romantic love to spiritual love) and as Deepak reveals the many nuances he also explains the spiritual goal of life. This book uncovers the reasons love is healing while anger and hate can be fatal.
There are quite a few case studies and the book is structured around stories of people struggling with everything from marital issues to questions about reality itself. Deepak acts as a psychologist who is solving issues one after the other. His clients have breakthroughs and each conversation reveals something new.
"Love and spirit are forming a connection every time you meditate on the heart, starting with the first time." ~ Deepak Chopra
For the most part this book reads like a comforting conversation with a trusted friend. There are instructions for a heart meditation. Then, a few questionnaires are included for your enlightenment. While this is not technically a workbook, it could be said that the contents of the book will change you as you answer the questions and discover hidden secrets about yourself.
