How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsThis is it. This is the path.
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on October 8, 2022
Having read many long meandering tomes on various schools of Buddhism, the straightforwardness of this book was very refreshing.

I took this book as a guide for my first solo retreat. I was skeptical until I gave the technique a whole hearted try. It was very difficult for me at first. Three days of 10 hours of meditation were mostly frustration and back pain. Then I finally got the hang of the technique and... things unraveled exactly as explained in the book. Mind blown & Life changed.

3.0 out of 5 starsAnother take on the Buddhist path to enlightenment
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on December 31, 2018
A somewhat different take on the traditional Buddhist view and path to Enlightenment. Highly practical, this book outlines the steps and stages involved in traversing a meditative path to awakening via Metta Meditation. There's a lot of good points raised in the book. On the other hand, the method likely requires a fair amount of time and seclusion to really work well, and likely some guidance from a teacher versed in this method of working. Worthwhile for those interested in this sort of path or familiar with the author's approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written

Beautifully written like one word flows into another and it is written with such clarity. Highly recommended for those on the path.

I just completed my 2nd Online Retreat with David. The first one I did was last year and it went very well. But after that I had not meditated again. Then David came out with this book and I was curious so bought it. And it peaked my interest again mostly because of how well the book is written for the average person. Easy to understand.
So I decided - what the heck I'll do another online retreat. Even though I could have done it with just this book as the guide. I went into it with no expectations just curious. And it was great finding out that I wouldn't have to start all over again. I just picked up where I had left off last year.
Well I am surprised and amazed at how fast I progressed in just a little over a week. I just can't believe it. And it didn't require a lot of time sitting and meditating. It's all a matter of listening- going by the instructions whether you do it in person or online or just by using this book.
So I can't recommend this book enough for you to understand how important it is. It's to be experienced. If I can do it - anyone can.

5.0 out of 5 stars This author knows what he's writing about

I've read most of the books commonly recommended in Western sanghas (The Mind Illuminated, Right Concentration, Seeing That Frees, Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha, What the Buddha Taught etc.). These are all wonderful works, but The Path to Nibbana is by far the best in comprehensively describing all the higher mind states - all the jhanas, all the four Paths.

It really shines through that the author has actually experienced these states and isn't just providing some terse academic description of them. I also love how it is unapologetically Buddhist and doesn't try to secularize/whitewash the Dhamma.

Highly recommended! Even if you're not looking to switch practices, the descriptions of the higher states alone is worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed and confusing

I have 2+ years meditating and the first parts of the book made all sense to me, been there, done that. Very good and detailed explanation of the experience.
Then the book goes to what i think as "the road ahead", makes sense to me, but I lack the experience or knowledge to confirm the experience presented in the book. It's detailed and confusing at times, but that might be because of my lack of understanding.
I will come back to read it again if, as I travel the road ahead, i find this book to correct.

At 67, I've read a great deal, especially on this subject. One thing I have learned is that all the scholarship in the world will not bring you to the experience that is being described here - it only brings more scholarship. Arguments about whether this path or another is "correct" or "accurate" all melt away against the hard rock of "Does it actually work?" The path fully described in this book has produced more profound and deeper results than any other I've tried, and I've collected many. If you've ever thought about going down this road, this one is worth the effort and is what I recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars On of the most straight-forward books on the actual practice ...

One of the most straight-forward books on the actual practice of meditation that you'll ever find. If you've ever wondered if it's possible to experience what the Buddha wrote about, the answer is a resounding YES. This book will guide you on your journey. Especially helpful for those who are looking to attend, or have attended a meditation retreat under any of the teachers associated with the Dhammasukha meditation center. Rather than this being yet another book about the Buddha, you'll find that this book is a how-to guide. Unlike so many Buddhist books in the West, the author constantly refers back to the original sutta (teaching) - claiming nothing new or invented here, simply a transmission of the earliest teachings. Read, lean and apply :-)
