From the Author
I'm writing a blog as a way of presenting takeaways from my book, A Path Revealed: How Hope, Love and Joy Found Us Deep in a Maze Called Alzheimer's.
Both my book and blog point to the emotional and spiritual issues that are certain to arise from a serious crisis. Our family had to deal with these issues within the context of Alzheimer's. Others may be confronting them because of another kind of crisis, such as health, financial, or fractured relationships.
Consider this a personal invitation to join our conversation. The blog is free. You may sign up at carlenmaddux.com.

This book is not just for caretakers, family members or friends of those with Alzheimers. I could identify so strongly with my own family, and the various health related crisis in each life. My husband lost his first wife fourteen years ago to cancer, and continues to have the emotional mood swings from the loss. I shared this book with him and he was deeply impressed with the depth of this writers words. I have lost both of my parents and a younger brother most recently. Each occurrence can be gut wrenching with deep emotional and psychological scars, and loss of faith.
Carlan tells the story from a deep personal and intimate perspective with feelings that make you feel you are with him each step of the way. There is fear, hopelessness, despair - and yet love and even joy!
Seek and you will find – the never ending quest for answers, and ultimately finding them in the intensely growth of faith in God. It is learning that there is a difference between willfulness and willingness. That there were no easy answers – all they could do was to trust that they belonged to God – not themselves.
I received an advanced reading copy of this book in return for a fair and honest review. However, I have since purchased six copies of the books and have given them as gifts. This is a profoundly moving story that I will share with many. Brought to me a clearer understanding of unquestionable love and faith.
I immediately started relating my own story to Carlens although I never had to face Alzheimer's. This story will speak to anyone who has loved another who is suffering. I was inspired to look beyond the crisis to find hope. Carlen directs us to spiritual resources in a way that is real and raw. He writes as if he is sitting down to have a conversation with you expecting you to question the sometimes strange paths he took along the way and then reminding you that we are all searching for answers that are not easily found, that we want hope and connection and healing and sometimes that comes in mysterious ways. What I learned from this book is that we pray for healing and we hope and search and will do anything to find healing and somewhere in the midst of that search we find peace, blessing and humility. This story leads us to ways of finding spiritual resources that will accompany us on the search. And that is all about true healing.
