Lots of diplomacy, knowledge, bluff, survival, sense motive, etc..
Lots of backstory and required NPC interaction.
PC's are rewarded for problem solving and thinking, and there are lots of chances to do horrible things to them if they insist on playing an all barbarian group.
While this is the introductory book to a horror based campaign, it's not overblown, the fright check mechanic is there but certainly not overused.
Also the module does a good job of using incorporeal creatures, but giving the PC's ways to fight them (if they use their brains)
very happy with this product overall.
As an earlier reviewer noted, I could do without the extra story section, it just doesn't belong there and is one more goofy thing I have to flip through to find the actual content I'm looking for.
Not enough flavor text, while the background and concept was complete, I found myself doing a lot of extra writing to flesh out NPC's and locations. I would have liked more "just read this" text to help me set up situations, fill out what shops/rooms looked like, NPC interaction, weather, social situations etc. With a small town sandbox like this, where players are supposed to be talking to people and interacting when not out killing things, you need a very quick imagination, or a LOT of planning, ideally both.
The GM can of course do this, and there are online resources, but ... if I had my druthers, I'd like to see more in the module itself.
This book is no different! From cover to cover you will love the artistry and beautiful look of this book.
The story is top notch as well. My group is getting ready to start moving into this first book, but i've read it all and as the GM i can say i'm PUMPED to get into it!
Can't wait to get next in the series just so I can read more of the campaign story!
