I'm a sock yarn addict and have encountered some very nice -- and some pretty awful -- sock yarns in the past five years. This is definitely in the former category. Patons Kroy FX was a desperation purchase at a local craft store when I was on an extended stay in the midwest. I hadn't bought enough yarn to last through my visit, and the chain craft store came through with a modest selection of sock yarns. I chose the Cadet color, which is shades of blue and gray strands twisted together, which produce socks that look like distressed blue jeans, with darker bands of indigo and lighter bands of grayish-blue.

Boy, did I enjoy knitting this yarn. It's a four-ply yarn, soft and heavier than a fingering weight... I'd say it's almost a DK weight. I knit the socks up on a size 2 needle and gosh, did they ever come out nice: a nice springy fabric that had a thick, sturdy-feeling hand. The socks seem very hard wearing, too.

I purchased this at a local chain craft store for as little as $4/ball but heck, I might be induced to pay full price as it's a really nice yarn, and has even made my personal "top ten" list of sock yarns I love to knit.

I don't like to leave a bad review of this nature but if it helps a buyer to make a choice I think it is necessary. I bought 2 of these to make one pair of socks, the lot, and UPC were the same, but one was orange and the other green. I contacted the seller "Supermart" and they said it was not their responsibility. I sent them a picture (which I will post here) saying that I would be happy to buy 2 more if they could match each up so that I could then make 2 pair of socks and was told, --no. The yarn is very pretty, but there is not enough of a color to make socks. So, if you are planning on buying this from Supermart, make sure you only need one skein.

This has been the year of the socks for me. It is very satisfying to knit someone a pair of socks that is beautiful and fits perfectly. You can't imagine how a handmade pair of socks feels until you wear one.
Patons Kroy socks is wonderful to work with. The gauge with dpns size 2 is perfect for a warm pair of socks. The subtle coloration of the Kroy striped is lovely for both men and women. The wool washes perfectly and holds its shape. The feel of this sock wool is comforting and the colors blend beautifully with jeans or whatever. Patons does a great product that is reasonably priced. Two skeins make a good tall pair of socks. One skein will make a pair of footsies.

I just finished the first sock of a pair in this yarn, and it came out perfect. The yarn is amazing for the price. It is silky soft, totally unscratchy, and knits up like a dream with no splitting or pilling. I used Wise Hilda's Basic Ribbed Sock pattern, and the size needle she recommends. Perfect results. Very very happy.

I'm so impressed with this yarn! Bought it totry for my new obsession, sock knitting. Nice colorway and works up nicely. Quality is excellent for the price as some sick yarns can be very pricey. Love this yarn enough to buy it in several other colors. I'm picking up a few hanks at a time to build my stash, while it's available.

Pretty yarn, but there are a couple of problems. The yarn feels very good to the touch when it's in the wrapper on the store shelves, but once you start knitting with it you can feel the difference. The socks I made feel very stiff and heavy, whereas I thought the yarn felt very luxurious when I bought it. It also knits up very stiff and substantial...more than what I had in mind for someone living in CA where the socks were going, and where the weather is so mild. Probably just my mistake, but keep this in mind. However...the colors are beautiful, and I would probably use this again for my husband or me living in PA where the weather gets much colder during the Fall and Winter months.

I like using this yarn . It makes good, long wearing socks and is easy to knit with--no splitting or uneven areas.

What I do not like is the irregular colors. You cannot make a matching pair of socks with it. Each skein has different lengths of color and the strength of color. Some like socks that do not match--I am one who wants my socks to look like a pair.

I still don't know what to use this yarn for since I did not find it's variety of colors out until past the time of return.

Bought 2 of these to make a pair of socks but the 2 skeins are obviously from different dye lots ... and they look very very different. I guess I could make a pair of mismatched socks but ... that's not really what I was thinking about when i got them :/
