About the Author

Finnbarr Dunphy was born in Dublin, Ireland, and received his education in his native city, where he graduated with a major in Irish and English, and a minor in Latin. His professional life as a high-school teacher of English and school principal covers Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. He has also taught Irish and currently teaches Latin and Spanish, using his own texts, at a number of schools in Columbia, South Carolina. Many schools have now adopted his language methodologies. Finnbarr is a keen sportsman and enjoys soccer, squash, tennis, and golf, all of which he has played and coached at an advanced level. In addition to teaching, Finnbarr has worked in diplomatic security with the US Department of State, serving, separately, on security teams for Vice-president, Al Gore and Secretary of State, Madelaine Albright in Buenos Aires in 1993, and acting as tour guide at the Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, for Senator Fritz Hollings of South Carolina in January, 1995. In addition to writing Irish, Latin, and Spanish texts, Finnbarr has penned two novels, The Harp That Once and First, Best Country, both of which are now available at amazon.com. He plays keyboard by ear and enjoys the title “Distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets.”

I am a former student of Finnbarr Dunphy, and I have to say I enjoyed this book very much. 'Patricius et Hilda, Alone in Rome' begins at an amateur level and progressively transitions into the Latin language (until it is fully written in Latin), which is wonderful. The exciting story of Patricius and his sister will have you sitting on the edge of your seat..
