Satisfied owner with this basic affordable 4 bay NAS solution
on October 28, 2012
Hi, I just picked up this from Fry's last weekend. I needed a new NAS for my movies, so the price of this made me do it. Although I read all the reviews beforehand and were concerned, I took the chance and try it anyway. Boy, I am quite pleased with my decision!
I setup RAID 5 with 4 1TB hdd that I collected over the years. It was easy and fast to setup. I can manage it thru the Dashboard software or browser(prefered) easily and without any crash or hiccup like some reviews mentioned. Throw terabyes of movies at it and I get about average of 15MB/second transfer rate which is similar to my Synology 212j on my gigabit home lan. I even tried playing movies on their IOS app, and it went flawlessly, no crash or lag. My LG Smart TV also detected the server and I have tried playing all kind of 1080p stuff smoothly too.
I do have some issue not able to access this NAS remotely from my office. My current workaround is using Tonido or Logmein. I did notice that Patriot mentioned they are working on some kind of remote access solution.
