Epic, in my opinion. I was thrilled to see this added to Amazon Prime Instant Video. Since this was made, I've seen the line, "Aim small. Miss small." used in American Sniper. I'm convinced Chris Kyle's instructor learned it from this film. Viewers will laugh, be charmed, weep with heartbreak, gasp in horror, experience all of the emotions wrapped up in the bitter Revolutionary War. If for no other reason, this film should be compulsory viewing to experience the sacrifice our ancestors endured to purchase our freedom. We've already completely forgotten how to make such sacrifice. Could not recommend more highly. Spectacular cinematography. Hauntingly beautiful music.

When I bought this, I had seen previously a version where you see the crazed British Colonel saying how beautiful America is and a scene where one of the guerrillas is captured and they try bribing him for information but he spits at them. This does not have those scenes and after I watched it I was bummed not to see them. Oh well, you'll still get more from watching this than by watching the theatrical release and it expands more of the story.

Are you kidding me. Instant classic. Mel Gibson. What can I say. He kicks behind.

Love this film. The acting is consistently great, the story line is compelling and even that the movie is over two hours, you never get the sense that it drags. There are a few instances where the movie risks going over the top (tomahawk murder scene, Mel running up the hill with the flag) but manages to stay on the right side of "over done". The story is made compelling and noble because the bad guy of the picture, Colonel Tavington (played by Jason Isaacs) is SO wicked. You can't wait for Tavington to get his.

This is a movie that I've liked for a long time.. It's got some very dark moments but some levity is injected as well.
Mel Gibson was spectacular in this, as was Heath Ledger. My son and I are watching this together since he's studying the American Revolution. This is not an exact depiction of that time but certainly gives a flavor for the magnitude of the effort, the brutality on both sides and incredible bravery exhibited during that period. We have to skip past certain gory scenes...or scenes that I think are simply inappropriate for his age. Overall however, I think it's entertaining and inspirational on a number of levels.

Another really great movie. Like a historical novel it teaches you real history. The life of Benjamin Martin was based on the exploits of real heros of the American Revolution, Daniel Morgan, Francis Marion, Thomas Sumpter, Andrew Pickens. The incidents were based on real incidents. One controversial incident, when the patriots were burned alive in a church did not actually happen, but since many people were actually burned alive in their homes the director felt that was justified. The directors commentary is amazing

Fun to watch. Lots of Hollywood, improbable moments; so, if that kind of thing bugs you, forget this! This is the American Revolution version of Braveheart, but much worse. At times, bad writing. At times, bad acting. That said, if you're not a big snob (or have high standards) with that, you'll enjoy this. I watched it twice, about three years apart.

still good, worth seeing

I love movies, and believe that you should at least watch a movie once, to at least say that you have seen it, you really can’t knock a movie if you haven’t seen it. I like this movie enough I added it my collection to watch it again. I only do that with films I like
