The artwork here is incredibly playful and at times reminded me of Jill Thompson's style. If she didn't have a hand in this then I can only hope that they bring her into the fray in the future - she seems like she'd fit right in here. Story-wise this is fun. It's not the deepest work, but then that's not what I was looking for here. There's the potential for things to grow darker over time, but for now all I was looking for was a nice and easy entry into Patsy's world, which was more than amply provided.
One of the best endorsements I can give for this is that I'm more than willing to pick up future volumes in the series, as getting into a series requires a bit of dedication and pocket cash for the obvious reasons. There have been more than one series that I enjoyed, but didn't really want to sink the time and money into acquiring, so saying that I'll keep following the series is as good a recommendation as anything.

This first arc explores Patsy's quest to start her own business, deal with the legal fallout of the romance comics & her rival Hedy while cope with fandom as well, and uncover an arch enemy super villain's nefarious plot to hire emerging Inhumans in a sinister plot. There's lots of fun along the way, with cameos from many other female super heroes from the Marvel Universe, most notably Valkyrie and She Hulk. Brittney Williams' artwork is phenomenal and unique, and is a breath of fresh air in the comics landscape. So too is the great, fun and humor filled writing of Kate Leth. The whole creative team of Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat is to be commended! It's a book about a 20-30 something trying to make it in New York and have fun with her friends, just some of her friends have powers. Another cool thing about this book is it's LGBT friendly, as Hellcat has a couple LGBT friends. It's not in your face or anything, but it's a nice touch.
Before I read this book, I knew next to NOTHING about Hellcat or Patsy Walker. This book has me yearning to track down all her early appearances both as a super hero and her romance comics. This book is that fun and really gets you into the character. In this book, Patsy has a "can do" attitude in light of horrible circumstances that will bring a smile to even the most jaded comics' readers face. It's almost very female Peter Parker, except she's almost famous because of the re-emergence of her romance comics in the story (and has to deal with being recognized as she's working her crappy retail job for example). Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat! is one of the best comic books being published today & should be on every comics reader's pull list. If nothing else, buy this book and see for yourself why it's so awesome. The monthly issues are fun though too, because people write in and send it pictures of their cats. BTW, I am way more into DC than Marvel (though love both) but was totally pulled to this book. I'm glad I was. It is great & seriously deserves your attention. Buy it & read it & loan it to your friends.
