This is an updated review since I have finished the book. It is essential for beginner as I only had limited knowledge in pattern making. This book is really helpful and it gets you started in no time. However, some times you feel you need more information and it leaves you with questions and that’s when YouTube comes to help.
The book is very helpful in patter drafting but it doesn’t help with application on fabric so you gotta figure it out on your own.
Totally worth every penny. A great reference book

This book is great ! I Love the in depth description on how to draft a block ! It has clear pictures of the body and explains why you measure, calculate and draft it that way. An absolute must have for beginners!

I'd like to start by saying that I've taken classes in pattern making and i've also done my fair share of research through books and online. I bought this book on pre-order willing to give it a shot. The book is very informative BUT the measurements are a huge issue. The book was published in the UK, so everything is given in Centimeters and CONVERTED to Inches. With that being said not all measurements in INCHES are accurate which can cause frustration or worse discouragement. I understand that when converting from Centimeters to inches they may have rounded up or down, staying consistant wasn't in their interest i guess. Do not be discouraged! Try to start using Centimeters or just be more aware of what is written in the book in inches and compare with the centimeters.
This book is very informative non the less. I've learned a lot and still continue to do so. I love the illustrations they help a lot when im confused about something. I do recommend this book but if you get frustrated easily, like I did in the beginning, I dont recommend it. Also even though this is a "beginners" book you still need to have basic knowledge of how to measure the body properly, this is not discussed at all.

This is a real good book. It explains and breaks down pretty much everything you need to know about pattern making or drafting. The only thing is that he had a few errors in his writing and calculations but it is nothing that will effect you from understanding what he is trying to say.

I just cant stress enough on how this book cleared every tiny detail that I questioned about patterns and pattern cutting . I felt like the author is reading my thoughts. her effort to illustrate every detail is endless. I read may great pattern cutting books but all assumed that I know the tiny detail (well I don't!!) but now I do. the only regret I have is that I didn't read this book first thing when I started pattern cutting. that would of saved me lots of time and effort,

Easy to understand

I'm studying pattern making and this book simplified things for me. Other books will tell you to follow instructions without a reasonable explanation. Whereas this book simplifies it and makes it easier to memorise the steps and understand. Although I wish they had more patterns. But it's a good book for basic blocks.

Not as good as the Wilfried book, the instructions for the bodice block aren’t clear and unfortunately become lost in the author's explanations. I use this book for theory (why things are done) but refer to Wilfried’s book (which is more clear when working with personalised measurements) to construct, both together are highly effective.

Exactly as advertised, it is possibly the most useful book I have regarding pattern making and cutting. It is very easy to understand, the graphics and explanations are excellent; I would say that this book is for people who already possess a good set of sewing skills, and is an excellent adjunct to the library of anyone wanting to expand their knowledge. I highly recommend it
