We have used many similar one-watt 2.4 gHz amplifier devices successfully, purchased from and delivered by other vendors.

These amplifiers are useful in small business and home wireless networks to boost transmission ranges and speeds from/to remote WiFi repeaters or remote IP security cameras. In this case, we ordered and paid for quantity three of these two-watt amps but disappointingly for whatever reason never received them.

A feature you want to look for are RF industry standard "SMA connectors" so you have the important option to easily connect the amps/devices to transmitters e.g. routers/ bridges/ repeaters, and also upgraded antennas (if necessary). Note that you are not limited to using only the (included) black omni-antenna pictured. Yagi and "panel (flat) directional antennas can further extend your range/increase performance in areas of difficult reception.

Please be careful to NEVER plug-in/power up an amplifier without the input and output devices being fully connected because you can damage the amplifier (unloaded) by doing that.

Briefly, in closing on our delivery issue, Patuoxun should have offered an immediate replacement shipment. They did not. You may want to note the customer service issues we faced here in case you choose this particular Amazon Marketplace vendor. We're not going to go into all the details here - this is a product review (but vendor performance, shipping and packaging are all allowed comments).

Happier note here - we requested a refund from Amazon which was promptly provided (THANK YOU Amazon Prime - You rock as always!). We also filed a charge dispute re. Patuoxun via AMEX for the record.

As an alternative, we're using a 5 gHz link from Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. purchased and delivered by another Amazon Marketplace vendor.

This device didn't seem to introduce too much noise or distant networks, instead it made normal networks appear to have a full 5 bars. I didn't do any technical signal level readings or charts but I was convinced it was worth the money after two distant connections which would normally get .25 Mbits down on an Alfa 1000mW adapter were able to pull 4-5 Mbits instead. The antenna this device came with was also much beefier than the one shown in the picture, and at least twice as thick, but about the same length. Not shown in the pictures (which confused me at first) is the DC wall outlet adapter that plugs into the side, also included in the box. It was packaged well and casting/build quality seemed to match the picture exactly.

Update:
I want to add that I got a chance to also install this on a Verizon FiOS router and it really blew me away with the difference. There was a motel which had one of it's repeaters die so they could not get service out to half of the rooms. The office was a small building at the end of another building that spanned about 8-9 rooms long. The default router setup could only penetrate the first few rooms and then the signal would die. After installing this I could still get 1-2 Mbits of solid connection and pages loaded up fast all the way on the other side of the building. I didn't think it would penetrate all 8-9 rooms and still work that well. I've already bought about 5 of these and will continue getting more.

According to the FCC the Maximum 2.4GHz output = 36dBm (4watts). This can be a combination of antenna and amp power. In the case of the Patuxon it would appear that the antenna (5dbi) plus the amp (33dBm) = 38 would be just outside the 'max' but I doubt this would be a problem. In any case I used a Raspberry Pi with a TPLink USB Wifi stick as a repeater (interesting project) plus the Patuoxon. My regular Wifi router is an older Apple Airport Extreme with has no antenna jacks at all.

Long story short, with the new setup I can get 2+ bars 3 houses down the street and zero dead spots in my house. Your actual output will also depend on exactly how strong the signal is you are feeding into the amp.

Note that 2.4Ghz is in the ham band so that licensed radio operators could legally use much more powerful amplifiers.

I bought this booster for RC use on my 2.4 transmitter. If you're into RC, then you know Chinese products and your expectations are probably adjusted downward. I was absolutely surprised by the quality of this product, however. (And then I noticed why...it was Made in Taiwan!)

First, it is actually branded, not just wholesale generics right from the mainland. "SUNHANS" is labeled on the cast aluminum body as well as on the included 6dbi antenna. That brings me to the included antenna. I have a bunch of these standard black antennas for 5.8, 2.4, and a variety of dbi levels. This one is one of the nicest. The joint has a nice, solid feel as opposed to the wobbly 45 and 90 degree positions of my others.

There is also an (RP?)SMI pigtail included. This surprised me. I know it's pictured, but I don't ever, ever make assumptions about Chinese goods (which I thought this was before I saw that it was made in Taiwan). You will also find an included power supply, though I will run this from a lithium battery.

The instruction sheet also shows that this clearly came from a higher-end mainland manufacturer. As opposed to the typical black-and-white sheet of indecipherable mistranslations, this sheet is printed in color. Again, none of this will be a pleasant surprise if you're used to buying things from Best Buy, but for those of us involved with RC and HobbyKing and the like, this is a major, obvious step up.
