Paul is a dad, a husband, a banker, and a general believer in things magical, which is why he writes children's middle grade (tween) fiction as well as adult fiction. ECHO AND THE MAGICAL WHISPERS and LOST ECHO are the first two books in THE WHISPERS SERIES, a magical realism about elephants written for children aged 11+ (and adults who are big kids at heart!). As you will probably know, the outlook for African elephants is not great, given the amount of poaching that is occurring. The WHISPERS books have an underlying theme of conservation mixed in with the magic. JOE AND THE GHOUL, a coming of age story for children aged 9-12, continues the magical realism theme.
Paul's books for adults are historical fiction about British colonialism in far flung places like India and South Africa. He explores issues such as karma, mythology and the rights of indigenous people, particularly women. SHADOW OF THE TIGER (Paul's latest book) is set amidst the chaos of Indian independence from Britain in 1947 and follows RISING OF A DEAD MOON, set in 1870's India and South Africa, and BLOOD AND DOVES set in South Africa and Canada. As a Brit now living abroad, Paul feels he brings an independent lens to some of the atrocities of these periods.
