Originally published in 2000, this book obviously does not cover anything recent, yet it does not feel outdated. As the author Jorie has had contact with Macca himself, this book does not feel simply like a fan's project. Instead, it's a collection of photos and stories from those who got to soak in the Macca music of those times. While much has been documented about Wings in other mediums, the tours with Macca's late-80s-early-90s band, affectionately nicknamed Lumpy Trousers, seem to be lost in time. You're probably a diehard Macca fan if you seek out anything from this era, and this book will satisfy such a fan.
The Wings Over The World Tour supported McCartney's career past the shadow of the Beatles. The Paul McCartney World Tour brought McCartney back into the spotlight after an unsuccessful period and brought classic Beatles tunes back to life. The New World Tour didn't have that big an impact and has been somewhat of a void for Macca completionists. The anecdotes in this book help fill in some of the gaps though. Personally that is what made me want to get this book and I was not disappointed. In addition to Paul and Linda, I was hoping to read a lot about the bandmates too, like Denny Laine, Hamish Stuart, and Robbie McIntosh, but this was mostly a Paul and Linda book. I had the impression that the pictures included would cover many shows in these tours, but it ended up being a lot of pictures from only a handful of shows. They're still fascinating though, and I haven't seen most of them anywhere else. It's the stories and small facts thrown in that make this book a worthy purchase for a diehard Macca fan.
I have the softcover version, and it's still got some weight to it. I wish I hadn't read through it so fast.
a fan's take on McCartney's solo and touring career.
The book is worth it for the photos alone.
A must for McCartney fans.
I am so pleased with this book, I spend hours just looking at the photos again and again and again.
Nice job, Jorie. Keep up the great work.
