- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2014These are a very lovely deck. I have collected 'art cards' and both regular playing card decks and tarot decks; and I consider this to be a very nice addition to my collection.
I do agree about some of the text being a little hard to see, but I have long arm disease and sometimes need to tape my paper to the wall to read it anyways. My favorite pair of 'cheaters' on those mornings and I can see things just fine, including what's on these cards. The art is sort of homespun yet excellent. It gives a few little nibbles about the entire span of 'permaculture' and some of the movers and shakers in the field, the experts. I'm already well versed with Paul Wheaton's vision and those helping him spread the word... but. Hopefully you can become interested through some of the information presented on the cards. They are an easy and interesting introduction and overview to the topics.
I think they are a great gift for your avid gardener, especially your organic grower and your 'off grid' types too. They are a great gift for a card/deck collector; the colors and art are very nice.
They are not highly coated and might wear around the corners with heavy use, but. They are a cardboard/cardstock, not heavily coated and they are not the 'plastic' cards that tend to snap a corner. If you want to play lots of solitare or such you might not want to use this deck. As fun, as a conversation starter, and as a gift to a gardener, urban homesteader, or those yearning to reduce their footprint; these are perfect.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2013These cards are so awesome! I missed the kickstarter funding on this and was so upset that I might not be able to get these cards. Pay attention to the deal of getting 12 decks and get 50% off here at Amazon. I'm passing these out to friends, family and co-workers for the holidays while at the same time spreading the word about permaculture (stacking functions goodness). Want to learn how to make your garden so it never needs watering for 15 years even in a drought - see the Hugelkultur Card. Want to learn how to heat your house with 90% less wood than a woodstove and still get heat from it over 24 hours after the fire is out, all while producing no smoke - see the Rocket Mass Heater Card. Such great and useful information from food preservation, bees, livestock guardian dogs, the amazing power of Comfrey to speed the healing of broken bones, how to build your own permanent food forest and so much more!
So happy with these cards!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2014I have recently found out about Permaculture from Paul Wheaton within the last six months and I find it very interesting. These cards are super informative, fun and easy to read, with GORGEOUS artwork.
For those actually using the cards for playing games (which I do), the playing card identifiers are still easy to see and identify, and the physical quality is top notch. These cards have been a real joy to play solitaire or other games with. I am very grateful to Paul and the artist for producing these cards and others for funding the Kickstarter!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2019Each card is a work of art with a little Permaculture knowledge nugget to boot! The cards are sturdy and can be used like any other playing card, but are also fun to flip through just for the art and knowledge they contain. Truly more than just a set of playing cards.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2014These cards are unreadable with out a magnifying glass. All the pictures advertising the deck are maginfied 4x the actual size. I thought the deck would be the size of a tarot deck because of the ads and because the price is the same as a deck of large cards. But these cards are even smaller than normal playing card decks. And once you take off the cellophane the deck is non returnable so I am stuck with a 22 dollar deck I have to use a magnifying glass to read.
The idea is great and the info from what I could read good. But the deck is not user friendly. They say the artist has been in graphics 30 years. Then he should have known this size is a very poor choice. I can only guess the small size was picked to maximize profit at the detriment of educational value.
UPDATE: Well my eyes are adjusting to these cards and they are not as bad as I thought when I first tried to read them -- I can see them without the magnifying glass now and the excellent information outweighs the discomfort so I am giving them another star. They should have four stars and make the next deck larger but this one is worth buying for all the information.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2014Dear Everyone,
I LOVE these cards!!!! I love the art; I love the information they provide; I am so very glad to have them! I highly encourage anyone with the slightest bit of interest to buy them. They were among my very favorite Christmas presents.
That being said,
I had intended on buying another set to frame & hang on the walls in our home - great idea, right? But, the cards are small, a tiny bit smaller than our regular poker cards and a bit smaller than Magic the Gathering playing cards - with much more text to read.
If they ever come out in a larger size - I have seen some pretty large Uno cards that are still playable, but BIG - I would buy more sets!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2020These cards are simply beautiful and wonderfully informative. I purchased them as a gift for a friend, so I didn’t have a chance to read through them, but she showed a few to me after owning and I was impressed. These would be perfect to read during a road trip or plane trip, and I’m thinking of purchasing them myself and keeping them with me and reading here and there in my downtime. These seem to be an easy way to incorporate learning Permaculture into our busy modern lives.
