* 1 year ago - It was costly to find out at the repair shop that it wasn't the integrated motherboard AC port that burnt out on my HP Pavilion 6910us laptop but actually the tip of the OEM AC adapter had split & was not contacting with the mother board port.

This obviously caused a charging issue or lack of charge. So I bought one of many AC adapter that is sold on Amazon that had 4 out of 5 stars.

** Last week - that replacement adapter fizzled out also. How did I know? I started smelling a BURNING smell coming out of the laptop's AC port! Literally, the adapter was causing a fire! Luckily I recognized this right away & stop using the adapter & risked further damaging the motherboard!

*** So this led me to the Anker adapter. From pictures & positive reviews it appears this adapter's tip is build to withstand the rigors of being jerked & yanked in & out of the AC port - the cause of the OEM adapter's demise. However, Unlike many after market knockoffs that are manufactured exactly to replicate the flimsy & ill performing OEM adapter, this adapter's tip seem more fortified & more sturdy. It plugs solidly into the laptop's AC port unlike the OEM's which just seem to barely stick in there. It's different than the OEM in that this tip's housing is longer allowing it to support the contact more securely.

Overall, this seems to have solved my problems in the short run & I suspect this will be lasting quite a bit longer than the other replacement AC Adapters.

Anker makes a quality product IMO!

3 weeks after receiving this item I got a follow-up email from the seller asking how it was performing and suggesting if I had any issues I could reply to the email to alert customer services. This was strangely ironic timing since less than 48 hours later the adapter would charge only intermittently, and as other reviewers have mentioned, this was due to a faulty power cord. It got to such a point that the unit failed completely.
The email exchange with customer services was both prompt and polite and they sent a replacement unit, at no charge to me, which arrived only days later. Upon unpacking and plugging in the new adapter I was dismayed to find that it was DOA. No light and no amount of cable wiggling would change that.
In a last ditch effort I tried the new cord with the old adapter and the old cord with the new adapter and found that the first combination actually worked (for now).
I will continue to monitor the performance of the adapter over the coming months to see if it will last longer than the previous one.

I understand that products sometimes fail, and the initial email from customer service admitted that they expect 1 in 1000 units to fail, but to have 1 die after 3 weeks and the replacement not even work on arrival reflects poorly on the manufacturing and/or quality control department.

As far as the adapter's performance while working - I was very pleased. It does the job it is built for and in comparison, the cable is just marginally shorter than the original HP one. Also, this adapter does not get as hot as the HP one used to. For the money, so long as you aren't the unfortunate 1 in 1000 (twice) this would be a reasonable replacement should your original HP give up on you.

I currently own a Hewlett Packard DV6000 and I originally thought that my AC Adapter port on the laptop was loose from over use, so I would have to play with my charger cable cord in order for it to charge. Over time, I couldn't get it to charge so I gave up and stopped using the laptop. Then I decided to look on Amazon to find an AC Adapter because I thought maybe that was the problem. I read Anker AC Adapter reviews and it seemed to be good because the cord tip was built to go deeper into the AC socket. I gave it a shot and when I plugged it in, it started to charge with NO problem. This saved me hundreds of dollars from replacing the motherboard. Thanks, Anker.

This is all around a solid AC adapter. Purchased this for an HP Pavilion dv6000 after the old adapter burned out. I was a little afraid of some of the cheaper power cords on the market. Reviews telling of the things starting on fire is enough to make anyone nervous, so I went this this one instead. A little more money, but it's definitely worth it. The brick runs impressively cool and the plug has a nice snug fit in the laptop. The cord is an adequate length on both sides of the brick. If you're looking around for a stable adapter, just save your time and go with this one.

Bought one for a neighbors HP DV9000 several months ago -- it's working great. It also works on HP DV5000. I like the fact that it has an LED on the power brick so you can tell when it's plugged in.

Bottom line: Nice power supply.

You can read the other 1 star reviews for more info. I wanted to test this unit for 3-4 months before posting a review. Because I've used OEM and cheap replacement ones and something or the other gives. The cheap one just died because of a very thin wire at the DC end. The OEM replacement has a bad plug design IMO (or maybe it's deliberate) that over 6 months stopped working unless I pressed the DC jack with my fingers to solve the loose connection. I got tired of the constant jiggling and using the now-broken OEM at certain cable dangling positions and decided to try this one.

The good :
It has a light on the adaptor that shows that it's connected to the mains. It worked perfectly for about 4 months. Comes packaged very nicely and gives you a feeling of quality and a good company that you are dealing with.

The bad :
It broke down fairly soon and started making sparking noises while I was using it. Fortunately, I was at home while it was connected. I unplugged and plugged it back again. It worked then. The next day, the same issue. The plug was securely fastened. Then a day or 2 later, it just turned off. I can jiggle/pressure the power (110V AC in) connector and that will cause the green power light to come on for a few secs and go out again; it does not stay on no matter what. But doing that causes the aparking noise again. I will not trust it, even if it did stay connected.

Really a shame. The build quality is quite good. The company seems professional. A month ago, I was ready to post a 5 star review for it. I would have paid double the cost if it lasted for say 3 yrs. 3-6 months is the best I seem to get from these replacements. And it's not like I'm tripping on the cords or abusing them.
