In Pawnee, Leslie Knope (as played by Amy Poehler on NBC's hit show Parks and Recreation) takes readers on a hilarious tour through her hometown, the Midwestern haven known as Pawnee, Indiana. The book chronicles the city's colorful citizens and hopping nightlife, and also explores some of the most hilarious events from its crazy history -- like the time the whole town was on fire, its ongoing raccoon infestation, and the cult that took over in the 1970s. Packed with laugh-out-loud-funny photographs, illustrations, and commentary by the other inhabitants of Pawnee, it's a must-read that will make you enjoy every moment of your stay in the Greatest Town in America.

This has to be the best television tie-in I've ever read since Supernatural's John Winchester's Journal. In-show, Leslie wrote this book due to her love for her hometown of Pawnee, Indiana, "warts and all." And seeing her dedication to the quirky history of this town, along with her remarkable accuracy (which she brags about several times).
Reading this, I really started to miss Parks and Recreation. Might be time for a rewatch of the entire series. Might be past time...
Clever essays, clever ads, uncountable references back to every detail of the show. Not the funniest thing I ever read, but up there. Mad magazine for grown-ups.
You'll believe the town of Pawnee exists in more than Leslie Knope's mind. I especially enjoyed the bitter chapter on Eagleton.
One complaint: I like to keep books like this in pristine condition, but the book itself is printed on recycled matte stock, not the traditional high-quality glossy paper of similar books, so the photographs don't have the best quality, and the paper just sucks up the moisture. I left this book in a room with an open window on a day with slightly high humidity and the cover curled up and the pages are all slightly warped.
As a huge fan of Parks and Recreation, I thought I'd take a risk here....and it paid off handsomely, 'Am I right Justin!?'
All the staff get to contribute to the book, and it's in their own voices. April offers a 'Hipster' guide to Pawnee, advising the best thing you can do is drive directly to the airport and buy a ticket to anywhere. Ann Perkins offers and 'Weird and Wacky Medical Stories', and Ron Swanson completes a diary about a month of camping. We learn more about the Wamapoke Indians, Sweetums, and Kernston's Rubber Nipple Factory, and their family curse.
All the staff get to contribute, and I can't over-hype it enough!
If you are a fan of the TV show you will LOVE this book. If your not that much of a fan, I suspect a lot of this will seem silly and pointless.
When it arrived, I was more than pleased. I actually read the whole book before gifting it to her. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the amount of detail put into the book. I even found myself laughing while reading through the various articles, advertisements, etc.
I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
