This is the 2nd book in this author’s Joe Beck series. While I am not a big fan of this author’s writing style, this is the 3rd book that I have read by him in this series.

In my opinion this author is so verbose that it is really annoying. That said, although this one was way too long, it was easier to tolerate than the other two I read.

I accidentally ordered this series thinking it was another author’s Joe Beck series.

While this book is violent and too graphic it is not as horrific as the other two I read.

I would not recommend this series to family, friends, or others who might be offended by cursing, gross, and graphic violence..

Brit author invents an American hero but doesn't drop the En h lish accent. Ever eat bacon lardons? Me neither, but it's a descriptor in this story. Mr Brown's fascination with over-description continues in this book. He spent multiple lines of text describing an apartment house staircase and its sickly plant. A staircase never seen again in the story. Three stars are generous.

Never read a series with so much action and violence. Dude! What are you thinking when you write this stuff. Joe is a BMF for sure. But killing kids with bats set me back in my chair! It's fictional but I'm sure that people do that stuff somewhere in the US. Read the series quickly, couldn't put it down.

Well, I haven't finished the book yet but I have an "issue". When Joe is confronted by the huge biker at the drug and money exchange the biker has a Sig Sauer P320 semi-auto in .45. Well a bit later he tries to shoot Joe with said gun and the author describes how the pistol works. The biker pulls the trigger which "fed the round from the magazine into the path of the slide. The slide chambered the round, sending it inside the chamber and locking against the breech end of the barrel, and the firing pin engaged." I don't know what the author's experience is with a a semi auto pistol but pulling the trigger when there is no round initially in the chamber does not feed a round from the magazine to the chamber. If the pistol has a round in the chamber and the weapon is cocked and off safe (those with an external hammer) or striker fired like a Glock with the round in the chamber and the trigger is pulled the pistol will fire and the slide will go rearward and then return while peeling off a fresh round from the magazine and inserting it in the chamber and readying the firing pin to fire the round. Somebody, author or editor should have caught this. Right now, 3 star but might be different when I finish.

An action novel based in the US on a very violent American hero but way to much of the terminology and nuances are British. Hard to follow. Author needs to research and become knowledgeable of weaponry. For example, a Ruger 1022 is a 22 caliber rim fire and not capable of exploding man's head.

A thriller full of Joe Beck action. We learn that Beck was a linebacker for the Buskers, unlike them he fights for justice and wins. As the suspense matures so does the reader into a a Joe Beck fan.

This could be a great series if it wasn’t for the misogyny, cliches, terrible editing and desire to describe every last detail!

For example, “She was wearing a tight pair of black hot pants that sucked to her ass and hips...”. It’s 2020, not 1920. In one scene, the editing was so bad I had to skip an entire page. The ending is cringe worthy and embarrassing.

A good editor could address many of the issues and potentially turn the series into one worth reading. Until then, the only plus for this book is the length: you’ll be done in under an hour and can then read something much, much better.

I liked this. If anything it was over to quick and lacked the depth of the normal novels, but it’s a “short” so fair enough... I’d have liked more detail and build as it was very fast moving, plus a more gratifying end to the main baddie, by that I mean prolonged... The “sent the file off to the Feds” may have been a slight cop-out, but fit with the drifter mentality. All round? Yep did the job, quick read, quick fix.
