Jess has been playing the violin since she was a little girl. Her mom is controlling and pretty much dictates everything she does with her life. On the day she turns eighteen her parents don't even acknowledge her birthday, her mom just pushes her harder towards the goals she set for her. Her best friend Sam and his dad Mike know that her mom is too strict with her so she gets to cut loose at their house. Jess has been fantasizing about Mike for a year now and maybe while her best friend is gone she can see where things may go with Mike. This is a great read and I highly recommend it!

An okay read. Nothing new or exciting here but not bad. Two things that bothered me (Spoilers): the continued use of the word “rage” in reference to the Hero during sex. Does the author know what rage means? Once can be thought of as, oh, trying to get that aggressiveness across, but multiple times just becomes eye rolling considering the actual meaning of the word.

Also, this after h gives birth, ““She’s going to call you Daddy,” I hear Jess whisper through my balling. “And we both know, you are the best Daddy in the whole world.”” Well that’s just weird since they always use it sexually. (Also, it’s bawling, not balling.)

Composition wise, this story was mostly well-written. However, there were so many issues with it. Most obviously being the creepiness factor of the male love interest knowing her since childhood, even if they don’t act on their attraction until she is 18. The story was also unrealistic and the author obviously didn’t do any fact checking. A simple google search would tell you that the legal drinking age in the U.S. is 21 and that North Carolina hasn’t allowed 18 year olds to drink in decades. Additionally, everything was way too easily resolved in the story and everything turns out perfectly. The story doesn’t dig into conflict much even though there is so much potential for it to. There are also a few plot inconsistencies. The sexual relationship seemed like it was written by a virgin who watches too much hardcore porn. This story did not inspire any genuine emotions in the reader, except maybe disbelief and disgust. The characters are too flat and the emotions are too shallow.

Paying Her Dues by Dani Wyatt features a taboo/forbidden romance between a young virtuoso and her father's best friend who happens to also be her best friend's father. I found that there was a lot more story in this one due to the history between Jess and Mike. Since she grew up with him, her feelings started to develop and change over the years. The same can be said for Mike who always thought of her as his best friend's daughter but then he eventually saw her in a new light once she was of legal age. It was still forbidden and they had many hurdles along the way including Sam, the best friend, and Jess' overbearing and nit-picky mother Janet. Once their feelings were finally realized, all bets were off and Mike was determined to make Jess his.

In the end, I enjoyed this quick, spicy, and forbidden romance between two individuals who were always meant to be with each other. Jess did not have a hard life but she had an overprotective mother who sought to control her way of life and well-being. The only healthy relationship she had was with her best friend, Sam, who was Mike's son. It was certainly interesting to see how Sam came to terms with having Jess as his "step-mom." As for the love scenes, Dani Wyatt did not disappoint. It was incredibly erotic, sexy, forbidden, and I wanted more. This book can be read as a standalone and you do not need to read previous books in the series because they're not connected.

This was pretty good. There were a couple weird spots, including where she was all sad because of mistake and then it just got glossed over or forgotten? Sam is such a fun character and a good bestie. I really hated her mom.
