Dear Martha Carr,
I've been reading Science Fiction pretty much since I've been old enough to read. Since I'm 73, it was a while ago, starting with "Tom Corbett Junior" and cruising through Jules Verne and George Orwell very early on. I discovered Ace double novels around age 12, (they were 35 cents, then) and had already been through the entire SF section in our local library. In high school, I read every SF book in the Chicago Public Library main branch, downtown. And my addiction's continued. So I've read a lot of Science Fiction. I don't remember when I first ran across your name, I do remember I liked some things and not others. But this series, I'm going to be bugging the heck out of you asking "When's the next one?" (I'll be getting #2 right after posting this) You have created a character worth following, and you balanced the humor and adventure very nicely. One could almost say magically! So I'm glad you now write full time, and thank you very much for this book! When is #3 coming out?
There are gnomes, other creatures, lots of magic, and THE Elemental that is the one and only one that can use the compass the ship needs. Everyone wants the compass and THE Elemental who happens to be our gal of the story! It is filled with action, humor, and witty dialogue! A great cast of characters I fell in love with right away! Can't wait for the next book!
You will find this book is chock full of adventure and at times laugh out loud funny. One mantra sums it all up; "Find the compass, save the world." I recommend you jump in feet first to this book; a great beginning to a great series. I cannot wait for book two!!
