I enjoyed the book. Obviously Barrie is a pro at coaching people to achieve their highest potential. She speaks to the reader in ways that give you confidence and inspire you to start meditating right away. At the same time, she’s realistic and she knows that to really achieve the benefits that mindfulness promises, there’s hard work to be done.
She writes, “The practice of mindfulness takes focus, commitment, and consistency. But remember, it is the practice that’s your destination—not the perfection of the practice."
Among other highlights, I enjoyed her comprehensive summary of the benefits of mindfulness grounded in numerous studies from Harvard and other top research institutions. She makes a very sound case for the benefits and if you have any doubt, she’ll fill you with confidence that meditation has officially graduated from the woo-woo category.
The book also offers practical guidance you can act on immediately. For example she gives a great explanation of breathing exercises and the associated science.
One thing I’ve noticed is that people struggle with understanding how to make progress in meditation. Barrie speaks directly to this issue and provides a solid framework or description of how you progress in meditation and how you can practice it in a secular context and still get all the benefits.
Based on the popular and compelling work of psychologist and best-selling author Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Barrie lays out a complete protocol for how to achieve your flow state at work whether you love or hate your job. Her basic point is that you spend so much of your life energy at work and it should reward and nourish you. Finding your flow through mindfulness is the way to do that. She goes on to help you understand this exalted state by demystifies flow and bringing it within reach.
I think this book will also be helpful for people who really don't like their jobs. She actually helps you plan an exit strategy but also presents mindfulness as a sort of metaphysical slipstream where you can transcend your mundane frustrations and embrace your work in a mindful context.
This is a valuable resource for aspiring and novice mindfulness practitioners and well worth the negligible price for the ebook. I highly recommend it.
After reading this book, I came away with some new ideas to help me to be more present and focus on the important things in my day. It also helped me to see my current mindfulness practice in a new light, allowing me to open to more possibilities.
In the book, Barrie reminds us that we're human so we're not going to be completely mindful 100% of every day. But taking baby steps to be mindful about 20% of each day can make a huge positive impact. This book offers plenty of ideas to do just that. I highly recommend it.
I like the fact that beginners can review the information and have a great guide about how to incorporate the ideas into their lives. And, it's also excellent for people who already know some of these practices and just need a reminder to reestablish these techniques.
This book gives readers the information, backed up with expertise and wisdom, and then lets them decide what is best for them. There are many options to meet the needs of different people and how they respond to life.

Very useful and I've already implemented many techniques. I would love for my husband to read, he would enjoy it.
