Peace of Music Paperback – October 8, 2013
"Music to Your Eyes." Author Jada Ryker
About the Author
My very first memory of life was the sound of my mother's glorious voice singing to me, most likely a Brahms lullaby, and I'm convinced that is why music always has a delicious way of creeping into my writing and becomes one of the most important elements. I spent twenty years in Europe because of my father, who was with the U.S. Diplomatic Corps, and my mother who was an opera singer. I worked mainly as a simultaneous interpreter and translator as I am a linguist and speak several languages, five of which are fluent. Because of my exposure to people of different nations my writing includes many foreign settings and cultures. I am a proud mother of a gallant Marine who served in Iraq, and among the members of our household you will find Louie the cat, so named because of his clawing love of Louis XV and XVI furniture, and surely thinks he must have been a fearless Marine in one of his former lives. iTunes has ranked 'Peace of Music' #1 in their TOP BOOKS. Ms. Kahn illustrates her intricate knowledge of varying cultures and, of course, music reverberates richly throughout. The cultures are described in depth and historical facts are also interwoven. The severe hardships that war brings are also covered adeptly with the suffering of the troops and the people of the affected countries. Despite the adversity the families suffer with losses of life and material objects, music is the 'glue' that truly holds them together. The toast near the end to 'new beginnings and full circles' is perfect.
This is truly an outstanding book full of rich character development, a plot that is well conceived and emotional scenes that will be remembered by the reader for a long time. Engrossing, captivating and most highly recommended.
The reader is transported and "sees" what is happening through the author's vivid descriptions and is left with the feeling of "being there" while the events happened.
As for a favourite part of the book this is very hard as there were so many. Each sub-story left a lasting impression. I definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to Denise Kahn's other works.
There's many interesting surprises in this magical story. Thumbs up to the author. I had a good time reading this.
My hats off to you Denise - this was exquisite.
